6 Speed Swap

Hey guys, I have a 2005 honda accord coupe v6 Automatic. The tranny doesn't shift as well as it is suppose to anymore, Wondering if anyone know a shop that can do a proper 6 speed swap on these cars.

jpark 01-06-2011 06:16 AM

wouldnt it be easier to just trade in for the 6 speed v6? since the tranny swap may effect the resale value etc?

GabAlmighty 01-06-2011 09:37 AM

Lol, that's gonna cost you a lot.

PJ 01-06-2011 11:17 AM

I know people who have done it.. it's expensive, you're gonna have a hard time getting rid of the car.. up to you.. but personally I don't think it's worth it..

It's almost impossible to sell a manual Accord, my friend has one that came with a manual from the factory and the dealer sold it to him at a 5k loss because it had been sitting on the lot for over a year.

I would start with a couple ATF changes and go from there, sometimes new fluid can save a trans..

This. Too bad it's not a manual, could stick some heavy stuff in there.

SpoonDC5 01-06-2011 11:53 AM

try some amsoil syn ATF, if the problem still consists than you really do have an issue

Berzerker 01-06-2011 01:37 PM

Persists.... Just sayin'.

Berz out.

OP: With Accordv6 AT, adding a tranny cooler does wonder for the longetivity of the transmission. Try B&M tranny cooler from Lordco, mines from ComptechSport and it works great.
Now with 6 speed tranny swap, it is workable.
Check out v6performance.net, many v6 gurus willing to help.

I dont see how 6speed v6 were hard to sell back in the day, they were limited in production but IMO, they were a great combo.
Add a SC then its completed.
Cheers!

Don't be ridiculous. Unless you're some insanely rich person, by all means do so. But you wouldn't be driving an Accord if you were.

Like someone said before, change the ATF fluids and see how it goes from there.

If you even know how to drive stick, trade your car for something that is manual and go from there. A conversion from automatic to stick isn't the brightest idea on the get go.

Good luck.

Hmm... Alright thanks for the info guys. I didn't know how much it would cost but can anyone give me a rough estimate? I guess ill be trying to change the ATF fluids and see how it goes, I've seen alot of ppl on the net do this swap and say great things about it but guess its not worth the value???

how much does the tranny cooler cost? where did you get it install at?

considering it is an automatic, im surprised it didnt come with a tranny cooler from factory.

HondaGuy 01-06-2011 08:29 PM

Off the top of my head, B&M tranny cooler are $100-$200... Dont quote me on that cause prices may be different when I started modding in 1999.
But my Comptech Tranny Cooler came with my SuperCharger.
Any mechanic can install for you... Its not difficult.

I know someones who has above-average income, great career and has money to support family and still mods his Accord. :)
But hey, thats him though.

Honda ATF is the only fluid to safely use in Honda transmissions, time and time again people have used other fluids and had poor results. Not only that, but Honda now makes full synthetic DW-1 fluid, and it's caused issues for people with older transmissions.

Cost to do the swap... $3.5-5k, plus the depreciation of the cars value. It might be worth it for people on the net to do the swap, but there are people on the net who have put $15k into 7g civics to get 300hp and if you ask them it was totally worth it.

You could also install a external fluid filter to trans, but if its already slipping it won't help much.

Most cars have a small portion of the radiator dedicated to cooling the trans, trucks have the big stand alone ones though..

tofu1413 01-06-2011 11:01 PM

hmm dont think recall seeing a tranny line to the rad for that accord though..

i seen early integs with cooling lines for tranny. GM cars too.

My 7g Civic has a portion of the radiator dedicated to the trans, I'd be surprised if a heavier car also made by Honda and from the same time period didn't have that also.. hmm..

Really? I had a super hard time finding a manual 7g Accord. All of the manual models in ads I looked into ended up being sold. Only the slushbox models were still sitting in people's driveways. This was in coupe form, mind you.

SupraTTturbo2jz 01-07-2011 05:21 AM

you're gonna need a new tranny or rebuild in that year and model...i was thinkin bout 6speed swap also but have to find the right parts is a bitch and not to mention the difficulty swapping the tranny, wiring etc... I've asked around from guys who did it to theirs. Its not worth it if you're gonna end up selling the car later on. If tranny does die on you, its cheaper to rebuild. If you some how find a person who can do it for a good price lemme know!

!Aznboi128 01-07-2011 08:12 AM

If you want to convert your 7th gen accord to manual it won't be as much as some people think as 7th gens actually have them. The 7th gen v6 6-speed is a rare car. However that 6 speed is the same as in tl as well thus being slightly easier to find. The tranny will prob cost you around 2-4k depending on milage then you'll need the ecu from a 6-speed v6 accord. This will cost you, get it from the states. There's guys on v6p selling it for 1k with cluster which you need. After that get the pedal assembly and shifter parts and done.

I got a quote to do a CL type-s swap w/ 6-speed w/lsd for 8k on my 6th gen accord.

I agree! I've also looked into 6 speed accords. Most of them have really high mileage :S thats why i ended up getting an AT.

I see what you mean :P Wow 8k for a cl-s 6 speed lsd swap eh?
I went on v6p last night, saw some guys who have some pretty amazing work on there cars, Seems like alot of them have done a 6 speed swap but they do live in america where is it easier to find parts compared to us right?

Getting the tranny rebuilt from honda is probably gonna cost me around 4k. I guess if i find a good price on a 6 speed swap, it shouldnt be that bad right?
