Back on topic. I cannot believe precious artifacts were stolen/broken by looters. These are part of history - their history. Do these people not have pride in their culture? Some of that stuff was thousands of yers old. In any case, it's a crying shame.
usually its hired thieves etc from international millionaires who hire them to go into destabilized areas (like Iraq, Afghanistan)
the Militias are acting like crazy gangsters, they've already killed a few people and they're just stopping everyone crossing their path and rough housing them until they see some ID (the only thing the ID will tell them is if they're a govt worker)
Really though, I THINK if it goes too down south it WILL happen.... Well not torched specifically since it's slabs of rock, but vandalism... destruction etc...
That's like saying if the people in Canada revolted against Stephen Harper then the first thing we should all do is go spray paint the Rocky Mountains!

wow... Horrible sight, horrible but it looked/sounded like they were attacking the van. Being a diplomat stuck in a riot against you, the government, and getting attacked.... it's no surprise what they chose to do, however sad it may be.
^^ totally understand why the car did that but there is a stretch of road where there isn't much people standing around 0:31. instead of taking the less congested path the car seem to went right for where a huge crowd of people is standing. could be a reflex problem, the driver panic or whatever but still....could of made it out of the mess with a lot less injury and death
Great pic I saw today of Christians protecting Muslims praying:
On Twitter, Nevine Zaki linked to a picture she said she photographed on Wednesday of Christians protecting Muslims during their prayers in Tahrir Square. The square in Cario continues to be a scene of violence between pro- and anti-Mubarak supporters who were wielding sticks and throwing rocks. Link.
Bear in mind that this pic was taken a month after z Alexandria bombing where many Christians died in vain. Yet we all stood by each other.

^^^ yeah there's been a constant message throughout the protests that i quote "it doesn't matter if you're christian, muslim, or jew, we are All Egyptians. This is about Egypt"
Unconfirmed reports of both Mubarak and his son (along with other high-level gov't officials) have resigned are starting to leak through Reuters and Al-Jazeera.

"US embassy releases a statement denying that any of its employees or diplomatic cars were involved in an accident that led to the death of several protesters
MENA, Saturday 5 Feb 2011
Print Send
The US embassy in Cairo has denied the involvement of one of its diplomatic cars in the accident that led to the deaths of several protesters.
In a statement distributed to the media, the embassy said that non of the embassy’s cars or employees were involved in the accident.
The statement said that several of the cars that belonged to the embassy were stolen on January 28 and investigations revealed that the cars have been used in criminal and violent acts.
A video of a diplomatic car running over several protesters has been making the rounds on the internet for several days."

perfectly suitable excuse by the us embassy "look its crazy there, we already left, someone stole our shit yo and are setting us up" (even though the Embassy didn't clear up shop until a couple days after this event; who's going to raid the embassy for cars with us soldiers on guard; if the embassy did face theft you know that would be plastered all over CNN)

all of this Winnipeg talk is making me crack up. I'm actually from there and my whole family still lives there other then my parents. Yes Winnipeg isn't the nicest place in the world but it's not that bad. In the summer they have a lot of music festivals for weeks on end, and they have a real good Eastern European food culture. Grand Beach is nicer then any of our beach's with the pristine sand and warm water. Yes the landscape isn't as nice but no place is perfect.
But it's still a place I wouldn't want to live again but you can't compare it to Egypt since both cultures and landscapes are completely different. Nothing can compete with Egypt's heritage tho. I would love to go there and check everything out.

no he gave a pretty good speech
i don't see the students blowing up over it... even while he was making the speech and saying he wasn't going anywhere the crowd listening wasn't outraged they were silently paying attention
he delegated much of his power officially to the vice president too etc
