| Egypt cuts internet ties with the world
Massive riots going on in Egypt right now, Government has called in the Military to reinforce the Cops, 0 tolerance for protesters. Curfew in affect, they've also disconnected all forms of Internet for the country, from small stores to Major Egyptian banks. Also, they've shut off the entire Cell Network in the country.

I've been following this story. The people in Egypt fear that once internet ties are cut (which they are now) the government will turn to more lethal forms of crowd control.

In both Egypt and Jordon there's been rapid inflation to the point where people can't even afford to buy bread. This is sort of the straw that broke the camel's back in Egypt where they haven't had any genuine democracy for a long time (despite having a "President") and the people of the country have had enough.
In Jordon they've like wise believe the government abuses of their funds. Their debt's rapidly escalated and their inflation rates have gone up over 6%, demanding their PM steps down. Their protests aren't so violent though they have shut down a few cities.
The success of the revolts in Tunisia have really been inspiring to a lot of these countries that have long been dissatisfied with their leadership but not believed that unarmed citizens could do anything to out them.
Am I the only one who's really annoyed with Obama for telling these people not to revolt against their dictators?

It's just that the US is all proud of their own violent revolution but condemns anyone else who does the same. In fact their whole constitutional right to bear arms is so that the people have the power to rise up against the government should they choose to (not that that part gets talked about much).
I'd be totally cool with Canada going 'Now come on everyone lets sit down and talk this out'. But it seems extremely hypocritical from the States.
That said... they're heavily in bed with and even helped install some of the involved leaders and rely on stability in these countries for their aid to the US's other military efforts in the middle east. But still.

But still. | I could see why it would be the US adminstration's best interest to keep Mubarak in power. Who knows who would take power once his government is ousted, given that Egypt is one of the US's closes Arab ally. But then again this just my tinfoil hat theory out there.

Egypt is vital though to US operations in the Arab world and you're very right, who ever takes the reigns next could be polarized on the Anti-Western end of the spectrum which would be very problematic not only for the US but for Europe and pretty much everyone as well.

Yeah BBC has some pictures of protesting women kissing soldiers, and soldiers using their riot shields to protect the protesters. But the live coverage that they're posting makes it look like this isn't across the board but just in little pockets but it's kinda muddled.

i dont think they are really joining them i just think they are trying to reason with them so it doesnt have to turn into a bloodbath.
