Nope didn't pay the tickets and yes they still do ticket you in the rain. The ticket itself is waterproof and it cant even be ripped as its made of some plastic. Buddy of mine got 7 tickets and finally got towed. Bill came to almost 1k after it got impounded.

Shitt, how did the 1 k come about? Cause an expired ticket is only $60 right? $60 times 7 is only $420. How many days did he get impounded for? When was it he got towed?

I used to park in the village from time to time and didn't feed the meter. Never a problem during the evenings after 6 or 7pm. Also tried it during the day a few times with no problems.

Get one ticket, keep it in your car, put it on your windshield when you leave.
MOST of the parking enforcers are too lazy to open the envelope to check the ticket, or to radio around to see if someone else ticketed you earlier.
I used this my last year at UBC whenever I was in a pinch and needed to park at a meter or open lot on campus; never got caught
But my friend got caught a couple months into it

Maybe u got away cause no one actually patroled when u did it, they would usually take ur ticket from ur wind sheild and give u a new one. Maybe u thought u got away with it but it jus happens that no one checked at the time u did it.

From my experience, they would not issue parking ticket when it is snowing heavily. IMO, people who are demanding for free parking at UBC should hope for heavy snow falls =D

This trick doesn't work. I have seen my friend doing that, but he eneded up having two tickets on his windscreen. (1 new 1 old). They do check every single envelope.

It is no longer 7 tickets quota before they tow your car =]

And remember to "obscure" your VIN on your dashboard.

Its the same everywhere. If you can afford to drive to a school like UBC, you should be able to afford parking.
They do give you a heavily discounted bus pass as well. You just choose not to use it.

Park on Marine drive right after the fork with 49th and hop on any bus that comes your way! kind of dangerous in the winter though...

actually, you are being greedy. UBC parking is expensive but it is not overpriced. If it was then the lots would not be capacity almost everyday by noon.

if you're going to drive to school, pay for a damn ticket.
if you can't afford parking or are too cheap, then take the damn bus.

not trying to haterade as I also goto UBC and have gotten my fair share of parking tickets, but just think about it. if there were free parking spots anywhere on campus that would just jam up the streets with more traffic making it worse for everyone. common sense

Just to set some facts straight in case the above posters didn't already.
1. They will now tow as soon as you have 1 existing violation.
2. If you are towed, you pay towing fee, all parking tickets at full price and the storage fee.
3. Using an old parking slip from yesterday will not work. They are instructed to check the slips carefully.
4. Putting old parking ticket envelope on the windshield is useless too, they check.
5. Parking patrol runs until late night, past dinner time. They will still check all the lots - paid ones, employee only and reserved lots.

Like what the people above said, parking is expensive, but not overpriced. Downtown is way more expensive. I pay well over $1000 per year for parking and that's just how it is. UPass - make use of it.

Buy a flexpass if you drive to school everyday. It comes out to roughly $5 a day which is not too bad. Plus you can go in and out of the parkade multiple times a day and can park on weekends to study for finals or club stuff etc.

Using the flex pass, parking is free on the weekends?

Yup, in your parkade of choice. You can park as often as you want. You can go in and out of a parkade as much as you want also which is useful if you have a long break between classes and want to go somewhere.

flexpass = you buy a pass that grants you access to the parkades.
ie:
~400 dollars + tax gives you unlimited access to one of the Parkades (except health) for one entire term

blame translink and the parking tax increase ... parking was still "affordable" last year.

Not entirely true.

5. They never give out any tickets after 7pm on any lots.

It sounds like this is the first time the OP has ever heard of a flexpass? lol

Their Parking pass used to be much cheaper 4 years ago, but now...
Ive actually heard this too, since they won that court case.
They'll give you one ticket, and the next one is a tow.
Dont think they've really been doing so though.

They do give tickets after 7pm. My friend has gotten a few lately. One at the bookstore, one at the lot behind Frank Forward and one in the gravel lot near ICICS.
