napa and crappy tires.

godwin 02-04-2011 03:29 PM

or go to an Automotive paintshop like Lordco in Maple Ridge and get them to mix you a custom rattle can based on your paint sample.

Nlkko 02-04-2011 05:32 PM

Crappy tire has the bronze wheel paint that looks decent. Make sure you follow the instructions in the can though.

Phil@rise 02-04-2011 06:06 PM

any lordco can custom mix you a rattle can based off a paint code.

Canadian Tire on cambie has an entire row of paint colors.
Seen many dupli color cans on top shelf.

Good luck!

found many duplicolors at CT...

I went to Grandview tho, that CT is massive... has like everything in stock LOL

SupraTTturbo2jz 02-05-2011 01:44 AM

anyone know how much powercoating is? or black paint that looks like powercoated?

godwin 02-05-2011 02:39 AM

Search Craigslists there are deals that come up from time to time.. there was one $300 for 4 a while back.. that's the low end.

Price of powdercoating is coming done because there are DIY kits now.. (though you have to have access to an oven etc).

I noticed the $300 PCing on craigslist too, anyone here tried it?

A compressor is also needed for DIY powder coating kits, but I'd buy one and do a few of my own parts if someone could show me that they're good quality.

SupraTTturbo2jz 02-05-2011 11:04 AM

Yeah I'm tryin to learn how to powdercoat. Just need to know the equipment needed and the steps

You need an oven or heat lamps, a compressor and a powder coating gun.

You can buy kits that include the gun and powder from Meguiar's for $200 or cheapo ebay ones for $75. I just haven't been able to find anyone who has used one yet to check on quality..

godwin 02-05-2011 07:46 PM

You also need a charge source so the powder would stick to the material. Some kind of a fine mesh screen so you can reuse powder that didn't adhere would help too.

The best way is for you to try it (I would suggest building a cupboard eg out of caferia style tray holders). Honestly the coatings are all the same, it is the prep work that matters. Eg descaling and surface prep and blanking out any threaded area.

oh hell yea second that!
Lordco spray paint mixes are fuckin awesome for smaller projects, on smaller pieces they come out so nice and even, almost body shop quality pretty much, clearcoat already premixed so it looks complete.
it's between $30 and $40 a can, but well worth it if you want it done right

I do a lot of custom headlight painting for my car club take a look at how good this silver/gunmetal pearl came out

hey g spec any idea how many cans itd take to do 4 rims then? stock celica gts wheels

Nlkko 02-07-2011 08:37 AM

You should need 2 cans. I used about 2.5 to spray my Celica's stock GT but I fk'ed one rim up and and had to redo. Buy 3 to be safe. I bought at Cambie CT. And be sure to shake the can for at least 1-3 minutes.

it took me 2 cans of Dupli Color graphite textured paint to do my stockies, which are 18 inches so I guess you could do with 2 cans as well just in case, but 1 can of QUALITY primer is vital.

also prep work, sand sand sand everywhere it's smooth otherwise shit will flake off later on, fill in with bondo where necessary sand again and then clean really well before applying first coat of primer.... and do a bunch of thin coats let it dry be patient, dont get lazy and lay a fat drippy coat on

my stockies had some major rash, bondo works wonders, good luck and yea like Rise Phil said Lordco spray mixes for all your custom color needs man, it's awesome for DIY'ers like us
