I'll probably get the Touchpad or Playbook later this year ... It depends on the discount I get at work ... WebOS is awesome, but I haven't used the Playbook's OS yet.
Unless Apple completely revamps the iOS UI, the iPad/iPad 2 has zero appeal to me. Rows of icons with pitiful multitasking capability, ugh ...

^ Not sure how the Playbook will work from a user perspective (touch screen, gestures, responsiveness), but their OS (QNX) is by far the most powerful and robust.
I think the TouchPad and Playbook have a chance simply because they're not Android. Seeing endless tablets all running Android and all having similar specs will put off consumers, IMO. Posted via RS Mobile |

Imagine going into Best Buy and seeing a row of 20 different tablets, many from manufacturers only hardcore PC builders have heard about. Then trying to make a decision about which to buy. Then looking over and seeing an entire section related to iProducts. A tablet you've heard about and seen on TV for the last year. A second generation product (consumers love second generation stuff whether it's cars or electronics as it implies all the bugs are worked out). And the accessories. Hundreds of vehicle accessories, docks, cases and all the stuff people like to get for their gadgets.
Even the iPod connector, which is widely available from vehicle manufacturers (ever hear of an Android dock in a car)? BMW, for example, has a new feature whereby you can tether your iPhone to their iDrive system and get Internet access in your car. No plans for an Android version according to BMW. Come to think of it, even BMW calls their system iDrive. Everyone is using the iMonicker. How's that for market influence?
Other tablets are going to have a difficult time. Very difficult. Personally, I'm pulling for the Playbook because I work with QNX. Posted via RS Mobile |

but i guess they figure they can make a killing anyhow | Two cameras, faster processor, faster graphics, smaller and lighter plus a few other goodies which aren't official. That makes it way better than the original iPad, which is plenty of reason for people to buy. And iPad 3 could simply be the high-end version which only certain people will buy. They have MacBook and MacBook Pro, why not iPad and iPad Pro? Posted via RS Mobile |

personally i like that samsung tablet that has the commercials going atm but that's probably a bit dated like the ipad now too | For some odd reason my GF's dad loves the playbook, he had a chance to go try it out at waterloo and simply said it was amazing. I love iOS though and for some reason have doubts about the playbook, I liked the galaxy tab when I played with it too.
IIRC the playbook won't even have BBM which is the only reason you buy a bb these days, and obviously no keypad |

If the iPad2 doesn't have a USB port I'm STILL not touching it.
The Xoom is going to be about $750 and be only 3(4?)G, no Wifi only option.
The BB and HP will be about $500, the iPad2 should be just a little more than that.
Personally, I'm sold on the HP, or as a BB user I might go that way.

I dunno why these things are so expensive. Last month, I just bought a Viewsonic G Tablet for $280 at Sears... 10.1" screen, nVidia Tegra 2 dual core chipset, Android 2.2, USB port, MicroSD slot... I was honestly going to go for an iPad but the price really turned me off... plus the frustration I had of using my iPhone 4 (it now sits in a drawer) for 2 weeks when my Droid was in for repair.

Can't charge through the USB port and have to use the supplied adapter? Need to sideload apps because you don't have access to the Market? And it lacks the fit & finish of an iPad.
Might be a good tablet for people who aren't afraid of customizing or loading their own software. But the average consumer wants something that works out-of-the-box, not something that needs "updating" to make it work really well.
Apparently, rumurs are that Sears and Staples aren't happy with the G Tablet for this very reason, since the people who shop their aren't tech-savvy and they're having "support" issues.

Yeah I don't think google cares. The more devices that use Android the more money they make.

^ But the RIM Playbook doesn't run Android - it runs QNX. What they are going to do is put some sort of VM or emulator to let Android apps run on QNX. Google wouldn't be getting any money since apps come from third party developers. Posted via RS Mobile |

Apparently, rumurs are that Sears and Staples aren't happy with the G Tablet for this very reason, since the people who shop their aren't tech-savvy and they're having "support" issues. | I'm not going to argue that the iPad is much better made but is it worth the extra $200 for the cheapest iPad? USB charging is not an issue for me, at .5 amps, it'll take forever to charge any tablet via USB.
I bought a tablet for the sole reason of replacing my laptop for road trips. Other than that, I have no use for a tablet as I have laptops and PC's in pretty much every room in the house. On road trips, my passenger has to hold a heavy laptop for the navigation and entertainment. Not to mention the tangled mess of wires. The goal was to replace it with a tablet with only the power cable plugged in and audio piped to the car via bluetooth. The Viewsonic with a bluetooth gps and another 16gb card cost me less than $350. I would've had to spend nearly $400 extra for an Apple product with similar specs. For what I use it for.... is worth an extra $400? Not to mention having to put up with iOS?

^ You're not complaining about the UI Viewsonic threw on top of their tablet? Everyone seems to want to root it so they can throw a new one on. But if it does what you need for cheap, then whatever. I'm still running a 3 yr old $350 PC.
What bugs you about iOS?
