Official iPad 2 Thread

With the announcement of the iPad 2 fast approaching, I figure it's time to start a new thread about Apple's upcoming second generation tablet.

So who's planning on getting one? What features are you looking forward to and which of the rumored features do you think are most likely to show up (and which ones are not gonna happen)? For me, this is the one I'm going to buy.

I'm waiting for the "Dam I just bought one" post.

im trying not to be an apple fan boy.. my friend is sooo bad....

he currently has
iPhone 4, iPad, Macbook Air, iMac, AppleTV

he used to have
iPhone 2G, 3G, 3Gs, iPod Classic, Nano, Shuffle, iPod Video, 2 different laptops and 3 desktops...

he cant live without apple products at all... damn... Apple Loves him...

ilvtofu 02-05-2011 03:23 PM

I will be waiting for one to buy used when companies start giving them away and ppl just want to get rid of em... I feel like an apple fanboy too but sometimes it's just so much more convenient than using a laptop if you live in a bigger house.

I wouldn't mind picking up the 1st gen cheap though, just want it for browsing the internet, RS, stocks, etc.

dangonay 02-05-2011 03:55 PM

For the Mac owners (since I'm hoping you'll be reading this thread), I want to buy a Mac. I want it so I can run the iOS SDK and start writing my own Apps. What would be a good Mac to get? I doubt I need the fastest Mac to do this, so what's a good recommendation?

I was seriously considering whether or not to get one.
Thanks for this thread :fullofwin:

I feel like all of apple's products don't have much of a difference from their predecessors imo. ie:iPod Touch 4th gen (3rd gen with a camera and facetime) Just wait a couple years for iPad 4 possibly. Not trying to bash apple anyways.

The 21" is a relatively good deal i3 3 ghz processor with a student discount is $1250
If you want a laptop skip the white macbook and go for the pro for the extra $150 there are a few horror stories about those bodies not holding up, and you get 4gb of ram opposed to 2 with the standard macbook

RacingMetro92 02-05-2011 08:35 PM

How much do you think people would try to unload their 1st Gen iPads for when the second one comes out?

gilly 02-05-2011 10:52 PM

i hate to admit it... im a fan boy. ipod nano, iphone 3gs (waiting for white iphone 4), macbook pro, imac, apple tv. Only thing i don't have is Ipad... definitely going to get the ipad 2. don't know what I am going to use it for though lol. A large remote for my apple TV? rofl

That sounds awfully stupid.

I don't see a good use of iPad or iPad2. It seems like a cool toy, and quite convenient, but not practical at all. Just my opinion

My dad has one and they are cool as a toy but if I had a choice I would rather just buy a netbook. They are cheaper and can do more than an ipad.
I say that and I like apple, I own a Mac book pro and an iPhone 4. I would buy another apple product if I found a need it could fill. Right now my Mac book pro is 4 years old and still going strong, I will probably get another 2 years out of it.

so is it worthwhile to buy a used 1st gen IPAD now for around 450?

just need it for browsing the web.. emails.. odd game from the appstore.

prices for ipad 1st gens should dip down to 350 or EVEN lower when the
2nd gen arrives?

gilly 02-09-2011 12:21 PM

^ probably for used.. but not brand new.

we have been using an ipad for sometime, and it is actually quite convenient and practical to use....i.e. browsing on your crouch in the living room, playing games, check something quick online...etc
it works a lot better than a tablet laptop or netbook.

However, whether it is worth the $800 price tag is highly subjective. (to some people, $800 is pocket change, to others, it is 1/2 their monthly salary)

imo...it is an overpriced gadget that works well.

I'm using it right now lol

LiquidTurbo 02-09-2011 06:15 PM

My prediction is that the iPad2 essentially will be a gigantic iPhone4.

It will feature front and back camera for facetime, glass with a glossy black appearance on the back, and Retina display.

You heard it here first =D

Oh, and no home button, replace with a 5 finger swipe to get to home.

RESN 02-09-2011 06:33 PM

I don't think iPad 2 will have retina display

LiquidTurbo 02-09-2011 06:52 PM

^ Not of the same pixel density of the iPhone4, but obviously a higher resolution than the current one of the iPad, which is fairly pixelated. Apple will think call this 'retina' which will appeal to the iPad sheepz:D.

Going to pick up a 21" Mac tomorrow. Don't want a laptop as this is strictly for developing iOS apps, and don't need to do that on the road. :)

dangonay 02-09-2011 07:21 PM

The next couple months should be interesting. Not only for the iPad 2 but also for the numerous other tablets coming to market around the same time.

My prediction? The iPad 2 will be a huge success and will sell like hotcakes, allowing Apple to continue to dominate. The remainder of the tablet market will be fought over by the HP Touchpad, Motorola XOOM, RIM Playbook and all the others. There just isn't a big enough tablet market so that every manufacturer can expect to sell millions of their version. Which means there might be one or two successes, but most tablets are going to flop.

edit: oh and xcode from the install disc too, doesn't come installed

StylinRed 02-09-2011 09:10 PM

Have you guys checked this @ engadget?

I know they don't have Ipad2 stats but you can get the idea of what features the ipad2 are likely to have

Teh Doucher 02-09-2011 11:12 PM
