Is it me or does this engine bay look like a hackjob?....c'mon, they could have atleast made it look more MB standard without the cheap look-a-like ractive air canisters and home depot air ducts.

You're probably thinking of the Smart car. The A is not available in Canada or USA. If this is what you're thinking of, the seating position/space is quite similar but you have 2 rows of seats in the B instead of 1 in the Smart.

I always thought this was just a project built by some mercedes engineers in training. Not a concept or an intended production vehicle, more like a course term project?

you thought right it is just a project by Mercedes engineers. its not going to be produced...there have been rumors of an AMG b-class though but obviously not with this big of an engine.
