public transit, bus tours (travelbuses), its a relatively popular race in japan, so the tours sell out quick, just don't wait too long

In other news, Ford launches a lawsuit against Ferrari/Fiat, because I might confuse slicks and wings and 15000 rpm and an arrogant Spaniard with a pickup truck.

“Ferrari has misappropriated the F-150 trademark in naming its new racing vehicle the ‘F150’ in order to capitalize on and profit from the substantial goodwill that Ford has developed in the F-150 trademark,” Ford said in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

supposedly Ferrari already changed the name to F150th Italia in response (before the article was printed) this is according to comments in the article

"The people who speak badly about me then tremble and cry when they want to have their picture taken with me." - Alonso

Yes, I tremble and cry when I see that such a talent is blended with such a terrible personality.

rofl dude you missed the whole quote

"There are more than 30,000 people here," he marvelled at last week's Jerez test. "The people who speak badly about me then tremble and cry when they want to have their picture taken with me. There is a difference between how brave people feel writing on the internet, and when I see the admiration I receive all around the world. I also think it's easier to write that there are so many people who are anti-Alonso than to write that 30,000 people came to a test to see me."
He thinks everyone that went to the testing in Jerez was there simply for him

I didn't mind Alonso, right up until he started acting like a whiney bitch last season.

Now I hope that he never wins another championship.

So the F1 season opener race in Bahrain is canceled (obviously)

Australia will be the season opener so i guess teams have an extra week to prepare

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/9402871.stm

Quote:
The Bahrain Grand Prix has been called off because of anti-government protests in the Gulf kingdom.

The race, due to be staged on 13 March, would have opened the new season but had been in doubt for more than a week because of the civil unrest.

Instead, the 2011 campaign will begin in Australia on 27 March.

"We must focus on immediate issues of national interest and leave the hosting to a later date," said Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

That's a bit of a downer.

I hope this discourages the FIA from planning more expansion into these unstable middle eastern countries. The funny thing is that when the FIA planned to expand into the middle east, Bahrain's competition was Egypt and Lebanon...

So Bernie wants to make F1 more 'interesting' by adding artificial rain:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011...in-formula-one

IMO, want to make it more interesting? Change it to a run-what-you-brung format. I want to see 1000 HP engines, six-wheeled cars, four wheel drive and all that craziness.

At the very least, lift the engine development ban. Get rid of the RPM limits too. Let the teams decide how fast they want to spin their motors. Reliability vs power, it should be their choice.

better racing? reduce the brake size by about 60% or get rid of carbon brakes.. braking distances will create excitement

bring back ground effects, shrink the front and rear wings, make them standard so everyone has the same one.

increase minimum weight by about 80kg and triple the amount of power made available through kers

so vancouver240sx had some good info in his F1 thread in VOT thought i'd add a point here

About the Pirelli tyres, 6 Types

(click for huge)
.....:WET:..........:INTERMEDIATE:.:SUPER-SOFT:........:SOFT:...........:MEDIUM:............:HARD:......

Quote:
Under the sport's rules, only two compounds of slick tyre - known as the prime and the option - will be used for each race. In addition to this, intermediate and wet tyres can be fitted if it rains.

In order to make the differences between the prime and option tyre more pronounced, Pirelli's strategy is to offer a step of at least one compound between the tyres nominated for each race. If the track conditions require it though, this strategy may be revised.

The prime and option tyres for the first three Grands Prix of the year - Australia, Malaysia and China - will be hard and soft compounds, meaning that silver and yellow tyres will be first to make an appearance in Melbourne.
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlin...1/3/11829.html

I wonder if we'll see all types used and which ones teams will favour shame each team cant use whichever 2 they want

Since we're trading links:

F1 news:
a bit more independent than F1.com, so you'll see more controversial stuff; also, some terrific photos:
www.f1live.com

If you Mclaren or the Mclaren boys. British accent, good analysis:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/default.stm

technical (I seldom visit this site, but its content seems pretty harcore):
www.f1technical.net

I love these guys - they pretty much give the piss to a sport that takes itself too seriously:
www.f1rejects.com

another fan site. Their top 10 lists are pretty good.
