i was as cypress yesterday and was buried in ML63s, X6Ms and RR Sports all driven by Mr and Mrs. China. Although China just overtook japan to be the world's second largest economy.

most of the population is poor, out of 10 families only 1 is super rich. multiply that by 1.4 billion.

For those that are Mainlander, or have rich Mainlander friends:

So did you give up your China passport, since China does not allow dual citizenship? How do you feel about needing to get a visa every time you need to travel back to motherland? What about when you want to go back to China for long term work? Apply for Visa?

I was under the impression that the actual rich Mainlanders have a way around this.

the super riches don't give a fuck about the Chinese passport. Their faces > Chinese custom computers.

the regular rich must give up the Chinese passport.

Tidbit. China's classified as a 2nd world country. The divisions are political, not economic. The divisions came after WWII. The first world is most of Europe, USA and their allies. 2nd world are the commies and 3rd world is everyone else who aren't affiliated with either side.

So the Chinese gov is willing to spend billions and billions on their milliatry yet they refuse to spend the money on helping their citizens. I am sorry but they should not be consider as a 3rd world country given their influence around the world.

Have you realize how much money China have lend to the states? LOL if China decides to make the states pay it back all at once I am pretty sure the states would be in real trouble.

I feel when a country have this much influence around the world and is having tons of extra money left over, they simply shouldn't be count as a 3rd country. They have the money to change the way their citizen lives but chose to spend that money eleswhere.

Edit: There are tons or really really poor people in China but majority of it have to do with the gov.

I still have my China passport (I still have it physically, dunno if it's still valid). 1st time going back in 30 years last year and didn't have any issues.

wouldnt be surprised if this is true; back in commie russia they stripped us of passport for moving too. simple answer: its a permanent move - often more opportunity here even for the rich. with a large enuff chinese population prolly feel like its not such a foreign land either so even more enticing to move here

lol and what do you think would happen if the US went bankrupt trying to pay China back? China would go bankrupt as well, since most of their money is coming from the manufacturing sector, which is outsourced from North America and Europe. Unfortunately in today's economy, no one nation can sustain itself no matter how "powerful" they are

Wow, I am constantly bewildered about how little Canadians know about the world.

Just a FYI, Goldman Sachs' most recent projection estimates that China will be the single largest economy in the world in less than 10 years. If you haven't prepared for a drastically different world economy by now, its may already be too late

The Chief Financial Minister of China states their a 3rd world country in terms of infrastructure and government services and that they have a long way to go to catch up with the Western nations.

In terms of economy, of course they are a world power. They also hold the most US debt.

In the 19th century, it was the UK's Century, in the 20th Century, it was America's century. In the 21st Century - it will be China's Century. With China holding most of the US Debt, this is the greatest leverage that China has versus the US.

If you recall in the mid 20th Century, the US held most of the UK's debt. When the UK and France were at war with Egypt (see Suez Crisis), the US pressured the UK to back out by threatening to sell the UK debt to the market. This would have resulted in the crash of the British Pound and UK economy. Historians collectively agree that this was the point were the US surpassed the UK as the World Superpower.

Now, China has this ammo. If China wants, they can crash the US dollar. Of course they wouldn't do that at the moment because it will hinder their own growth.

This is actually interesting to me. If China were actually communist, none of this would be possible.

So is Cuba the last real communist country out there?

I was surprised watching a new documentary. Everyone makes about the same wage, all their monthly groceries/etc are rationed. It's really interesting.

It's very expensive for immigrants to come into Canada nowadays. Anyone that can immigrate into Canada now are people that are wealthy and/or smart. Not only that, but money can flow in/out of China much easier now, which is why we see a huge influx of Chinese investors.

Jesus christ... China is at its heart communist. However Deng Xiaoping created special "economic zones" the main one being Shenzhen, an experiment with capitalism in China, compare this one city to all of Canada, USA and UK, it is on the same level financially and medically [ life expectancy ]. So to answer your question yes, China is still communist but it have special zones where capitalism is practiced. According to Xiaoping it doesn't matter whether the cat is black or white, as long as it catches the mouse. aka, communism, capitalism, whatever helps its people catch up faster to the west is best.

China has 5000 years of history and the communist party has only existed in China for 50 years...1% of the entire Chinese history, the concept of communism is as foreign to the Chinese as Confucius is to westerners.

Chinese has been and will always be capitalist and authoritarian, no matter what party comes to power.

I am sorry to break it to you, but China at its heart is still Feudalism.

A weak central controlling powerful regional leaders.

Except a few hundred years ago the regional leaders actually listen to the central.

special zones? all you need is money, will power and connections to get shit done, you'd have a much harder time getting a business set up in japan, shit is capitalist to the extreme

california, canada, and some eastern euro countries are far more communist than china

i'm hoping china gets universal health care by the century's end, that should be the goal of every superpower

honestly, to the canadian chinese population, we see the visa for going back as just a money grab from the chinese govt, lets face it, as long as you apply for the visa and cough up the fees, China aint gonna deny you the visa, honestly for me, who goes back to shanghai like once every 5 years, i dont really think losing chinese citizen-ship is an issue...

like everyone else said, the rich to poor ratio is like 1,000,000 to 1, but being in Vancouver, we are seeing the "1" and not the 1,000,000 behind it, so everyone would assume everyone is a fuckin "BAWS" =.=

you have no idea how many people have asked me
"oh damn, you dont drive a BMW or Benz or Audi?" when I offer them to give them a ride..and they see a 270,000KM on odo corolla that is worth abt $500

The questions was "is china communist?" the answer is YES, the Communist party of china is still in power. Obviously communism does not work, and people have ways around it.
