$20 Canadian Coin

I had a buddy in the states email me today asking for a favor. Well it turn's out the Canadian mint came out with a $20 99.9% pure silver which is actually legal tender.

For those collector's our their I thought you would be interested or in the coming months you get a $20 coin from the store it's not fake :)

TekDragon 02-16-2011 05:01 PM

It's cool, but I'd probably spend it on chips and a slurpee.

slammer111 02-16-2011 05:07 PM

They've been making $20 silver coins for decades. Pretty much any gold / silver coin made by any government mint is legal tender and can technically be spent at the pub. And I'm not talking about melting down the coins either.

What that said, this one doesn't look half bad.

quasi 02-16-2011 05:20 PM

Nice, will order one and use it as my new card protector.

sure, but if its a 1oz silver coin, its only worth $5 even tho 1oz right now is worth over $30. they'll take it for face value which means you're getting ripped off.

what do you mean by this?

at it is likely that your order will be cancelled. they only minted 200,000.
And this has been on redflagdeals for awhile. so i'm sure they're at their limit.

I play poker quite a bit, I'd like to use it as a card protector. I put the order through and it appeared to go through but if they cancel it that's fine it's not like it cost me anything.

Greenstoner 02-16-2011 05:42 PM

i dont mind keeping one or two of this

Ohhh, I get it.
Makes sense now.

johny 02-16-2011 07:13 PM

it's only 1/4 oz. and a 200,000 mint is huge from a collectors standpoint. (IE not a collector coin)

so really it's woth about $7

go buy yourself a real 1oz coin

insomniac 02-16-2011 07:37 PM

i think im gonna buy one for my grandfather as he collects coins lolol

A lot of people don't understand here....

This coin is meant for collectors.
Not something one would buy, and sell it 5 months down to road to get a profit.

StylinRed 02-16-2011 07:47 PM

oh i thought it was $20 worth of silver so something like 18g of silver (damn i remember when silver was like $5/oz parents wouldnt listen to me when i said buy silver -_- dumbasses)

azncreationz 02-16-2011 08:05 PM

Thanks OP for the link. Just bought myself 3 of them, thought it might make a nice little gift.

BlackZRoadster 02-16-2011 08:58 PM

3 myself too, thanks OP!

the_rickster 02-16-2011 09:00 PM

who cares what the "value" of the coin is... this world turns based on our over valuation of goods.

MG1 02-16-2011 10:49 PM

purchased three. thanks, OP

it's legal tender, so who cares if it ain't worth the amount of metal used to make it.

Agreed. If you want a higher ROI by raw materials and manufacturing costs alone, buy pennies

Durrann 02-17-2011 12:50 AM

Thanks op I'll probably get one

even tho is legal tender, will all places accept this... not everyone knows about this $20 coin... that might be a problem...

Nope, but the bank will for sure. Just order a bunch, rack up points / cash back on your credit card. And then deposit the $20 back into the bank :)

Oleophobic 02-17-2011 07:03 AM

^
good idea lol I sure want those points

MG1 02-17-2011 07:19 AM

I had mine shipped via XPresspost. I have no confidence in the post office - letter carrier is probably on crack (missing/stolen mail, delivered to wrong address, etc.). At least with Xpresspost, there's tracking.

My wife's replacement credit card is 3 weeks late in arriving. Another one was shipped, but has not arrived either.

Isn't that like complaining that your $20 bill will get taken for face value, when the paper and ink clearly isn't worth that much?
