What % of the worlds oil does libya have in it's reserves?

StylinRed 02-23-2011 07:34 PM

Libyan oil reserves are the largest in Africa and the 9th in the world according to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves_in_Libya

and here's the US EIA breakdown http://www.eia.doe.gov/cabs/Libya/Oil.html

most their oil goes to Italy that's why the experts are saying if anyone was to influence Gaddafi in altering his plans of destruction it would be Berlusconi

here's a good FT article http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/e719690e-3...#axzz1EqdQp2Qm

Producers’ cartel Opec has said it stands ready to supply the market in case of a shortage.

However, analysts warned that Opec’s spare capacity was of lower quality than Libyan crude, suggesting that members of the International Energy Agency, the consumer countries’ watchdog, might instead agree to release strategic stocks.

according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Libya pumped 1.6 million barrels of oil a day in January, enough to meet 8 percent of U.S. demand, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Mariah Carey paid $1M to sing at Libyan dictator Gaddafi’s son’s partyNew York, Jan 5 : Pop and R&B singer Mariah Carey has been paid one million dollars to sing at the New Year''s Eve party of Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi's son.

The host of the party, Saif, 36, is said to have spent the huge amount just to hear Carey, 38, sing three or four of her songs at the Nikki Beach Club on Caribbean island of St Barts.

But Carey's representative has, on the other hand, denied knowledge of any payment being made to the singer.

well since we're posting pics

Aisha Qaddafi

http://babylonianmusings.blogspot.com/libyajpeg.JPG
Milf Material

a lawyer and was a UN Goodwill Ambassador but due to the current events the UN rescinded that appointment
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/un...-envoy/754197/

he had another daughter (adopted) but she was killed by the states when they tried to assassinate him

StylinRed 02-24-2011 01:18 PM

So Qaddafis son says the reports the world is getting are largely false and they're allowing international monitors and media to go in and take a look for themselves

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Foreig...e1-666346.aspx

and supposedly the reports by Al-Jazeera of air strikes turned out to be false

Qaddafi says that its Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden causing turmoil in his country

blkgsr 02-24-2011 01:45 PM

any one heard the rumor Gaddafi was shot and killed?

StylinRed 02-24-2011 02:02 PM

lol no

al-jazeera is showing a tonne of ppl in libya in their new cars plastered with Qaddafis face, lots of supporters

looks like this will be a major prologned civil war

Quote:

"The security forces fired indiscriminately on the demonstrators," said a resident of one of the capital's eastern suburbs that has seen previous clashes between opponents of the regime and its remaining loyalists.

"There were deaths in the streets of Sug al-Jomaa," the resident said.

The death toll since violence began remains unclear, though on Thursday Francois Zimeray, France's top human rights official, said it could be as high as 2,000 people killed.
Just insane that he keeps firing on his own people

StylinRed 02-25-2011 02:13 PM

i dont think its unbelieveable that he's firing on his own people... or any country for that matter...

look at the G8/G20 summits and how the police react in the USA/CAN now imagine how they would react if those people were revolting against the country (hell another example would be the LA Riots)

On another note they were interviewing President Clintons former top advisor on the news (cant remember his name) and he was explaining that Benghazi, Libya had always been the stronghold for Anti-Gaddafi tribes and that was where the protesting began so in Gaddafis view it was the separatists that have always been causing trouble are stirring shit up again

and as we see in china, turkey, iraq, etc separatist groups have always been attacked/killed etc

side note Al-Jazeera just showed Gaddafi speaking to a crowd of supporters and holy shit the group was larger than any protester group they've aired; so again expect this to last a long time

Gadhafi strikes back

q0192837465 03-04-2011 07:15 PM

Damn, without a leader, the rebels could probably get crushed. With the sanctions from the international community, Gadhafi might as well destroy everyone who goes against him cuz he has nowhere else to go.

Libyas oil industry is still operating ships are coming in picking up oil leaving Libya is getting paid

Britains SAS is leading a diplomatic entourage in Libya trying to meet up with rebel leaders (they were captured by rebels)

Dutch special forces were captured by Qaddafi troops, supposedly they're trying to help nationals escape the country

Saudi Arabia is facing protests now but the riot troops are out asap shutting it down and they're tracing/arresting online organizers

they were just showing it on al-jazeera (ch 513)

StylinRed 03-16-2011 11:32 AM

So it looks like ppl stopped being interested by this

but little update

Qaddafis forces are taking back rebel areas, and are pushing back rebel militants

an Al-Qaeda commander is supporting the rebels and calling for Sharia in Libya

In a twist Iran is saying the USA is using this Al-Qaeda thing as an excuse not to help the rebels
USA is saying "oh look al-qaeda is there"

Shit is gonna get more real. UN has backed military action against Gaddafi's forces in Libya

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12781009

Nightwalker 03-17-2011 05:39 PM

^ from your link:

"Russia and China - which often oppose the use of force against a sovereign country as they believe it sets a dangerous precedent - abstained rather than using their power of veto as permanent members."

That's a big hurdle jumped.

The no fly zone being put into effect by UK and France is basically an act of war.

US may be assisting with what it already has in the area.

From another article:
"Beyond that, the diplomat said that officials in Britain, France and the United States were all adamant that Arab League forces take part in the military actions and help pay for the operations, and that it not be led by NATO, to avoid the appearance that the West was attacking another Muslim country."

StylinRed 03-17-2011 07:50 PM

If you guys have been following it Qaddafi has already taken back the country except for Benghazi which he was already attacking while the vote was taking place

All the UN voted for was a No Fly zone but there's no point since, again, Qaddafis won already

Its a shame they didnt vote for something like this against Israel when they bombarded Gaza

Or even Bahrain considering Saudi Arabia is now in there killing/kidnapping protesters and going into hospitals and beating doctors if they resist the Saudis in getting the injured protesters

just a note about how CNN etc are saying Qaddafi is just saying he's going to kill everyone even civilians "No Mercy" but he was referring to the rebel forces

and in the same speech Qaddafi says
Quote:

He told rebels to go home, adding that whoever lays down his weapons" would be pardoned.

Libya 'to halt military action'

Libya's government is declaring an immediate ceasefire after a UN Security Council resolution backed "all necessary measures" short of occupation to protect civilians in the country.

Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa said the ceasefire was intended "to protect civilians".

Western powers had been discussing how to enforce the UN resolution.

It was passed as troops loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi advanced on the rebel-held second city of Benghazi.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12787739

so its over, and it looks like the rebels held on to Benghazi at the time of ceasefire as they did prior to the revolt (Benghazi has always harbored anti-Qaddafi forces)

Manic! 08-21-2011 03:15 PM

Rebels have now entered the Capital. Reports have it that Kadhafi has been captured trying to escape and earlier two of his sons were captured.

Looks like the rebel army has won!!!

Check out CNN for live coverage from Libya.

Excellent! Now we can just shuffle our hornets from Tripani to Cyprus and start with Syria. I never did like Italy but always wanted to see Cyprus.
