Libya before Bahrain? http://blogs.aljazeera.net/sites/def...STS-TOBRUK.JPG authorities have accepted that eastern cities such as al-Bayda and Benghazi - traditional pockets of resistance to the government - are now under the control of the opposition. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12533069 "What we are witnessing today is unimaginable. Warplanes and helicopters are indiscriminately bombing one area after another. There are many, many dead," Adel Mohamed Saleh said in a live broadcast. "Anyone who moves, even if they are in their car, they will hit you." Ali al-Essawi, who resigned as Libyan ambassador to India, also told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that fighter jets had been used by the government to bomb civilians http://english.aljazeera.net/news/af...251456133.html Live blog: http://blogs.aljazeera.net/africa/20...g-libya-feb-22 |
The reports coming out of there are insane. The military is split and battling itself, mercenaries are firing on protesters, communications are being blocked, the son of Col Gaddafi stated that they would fight to the last bullet, etc. This will be nothing close to peaceful. |

10 months and 7 more days till everything is over.:gun: |

You believe guys who thought the earth was flat? |

How can they just abandon them? I get they don't want to fire on innocents, but I would never leave my family. Surely, their families are going to be made an example of. |
And what if their families were amongst the rioters they refused to bomb? |
1456: In a statement on its website Human Rights Watch has compiled some powerful testimony, including a protester who describes the mood on the ground: "I saw guys taking off their shirts and exposing their chests to the snipers. I've never seen anything like it, I was very ashamed to hide under a tree but I am human." |
^ Wow that made the hair on the back of my neck go up. |
He's speaking (ranting) right now, and literally saying he will fight to his death. That all the protesters should be killed, that they're terrorists, that they're being fed hallucinogenic drugs and being influenced by outsiders. He called for Libyans to attack and disarm them in the street. This shit is crazy. |

Seems like the Al Jazeera coverage is better. They're live on it too. http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/ |
There is nothing as vicious as inter-tribal fighting. Gaddafi's son wasn't bluffing when he said "We will fight to the last minute, until the last bullet." The Gaddafi tribe will do just that, and they will not blink twice while doing it... |

A good read on the tribes in Libya. http://af.reuters.com/article/energy...71L2K720110222 |
certainly seems like the Gaddafis have gone qwacky... its really odd.... especially Seif who was supposedly the hero of the Libyan youth.. check this NYTimes article citing the cables leaked by Wikileaks touches on their splurging and the hate the sons of Gaddafi garnered (except for Seif) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/23/wo.../23cables.html |
gruesome...at the end they show a body peppered with shotgun pellets |

He's lost more cities today, and more military have changed sides to the people. Reports of his family members trying to flee the country. One report he may be threatening to blow up his oil pipelines. The international community is turning further against him and struggling to evacuate all their people. Turkey is making the largest evacuation in it's history: 25,000 people. |
Since the middle east is foreign to most of us. Is there a quick chart that shows which countries are run by which systems and since how long? I think that would help to bring these stories a lot of much needed context. |
Shit is beyond real Cliff notes -> Libyan troops are besieging a suburb near the heart of the capital with tanks! -> Death toll in Benghazi reached 2,000. -> Troops mobilized to attack oil fields. -> Gaddafi's daughter was sacked by the UN as a goodwill ambassador. -> The largest tribe in the country has revolted against Gaddafi. -> Thousands of Chadian mercenaries are roaming the country. -> Airports in many major cities destroyed or closed, Americans getting attacked while fleeing. -> Gaddafi's son and family left but refused landing in Lebanon. -> Not a SINGLE Libyan policeman on the border, all have fled and most of the countryside is pretty much in the hands of Chadian militias. -> Massacre ongoing in Green square, "too many bodies to count" -> US oil already hit $100/barrel just because of Libya -> All major oil companies vacated the country -> Gaddafi threatened to burn oil fields of rival tribes -> Mass executions in western Libya near the capital -> Gaddafi offering $2,500 per DAY to anyone willing to join his army, from any country -> 30,000 protesters block Tripoli airport, Gaddafi & family unable to leave the country -> Troops using live ammo in the streets of Tripoli on protesters -> Massacre of government troops who refused to shoot at civilians -> Eastern generals have joined the rebellion -> 1 general alone gave 70 trucks, 250 heavy guns, artillery, and anti-aircraft to one rebel group -> THOUSANDS of foreign mercenaries are entering Libya as Gaddafi digs in for war -> Gaddafi announces that he will fight till the end and die in Libya, refuses to leave the country -> Military heading towards oil field, expect gas to hit $5 barrel by tomorrow -> All of eastern Libya has fallen, army digging into the capital, entire countryside and eastern Libya turning into anarchy and war between Libyan tribes and foreign militias |
dam.. better fill up gas soon. |
holy fuck that is some crazy shit.. |
