Help!

Hey guys i lightly tapped this ladys acura tsx bumper one night and it only made 2 paint chip dots and she is asking me to pay 560$ to fix her bumper at a repair shop. when i heard the number 560$ for just 2 paint chips i was thinking to my self what the fuck... lol that's kinda over priced imo... give me some info guys what shall i do? she has my license plate and driver license number but i really dont wanna cough out 560$ just for a lil tap that can easily be fixed for less.

Get a written quote from the repair shop? Or even better, get a written quote from 3 repair shops?

If you think it's to expensive tell her to go to ICBC. You can still pay for the damages but you won't have to pay any more then the repairs cost. If I was her I would probably just go to ICBC anyway.

its a bluff..

The_AK 02-24-2011 05:56 PM

even if you pay out of pocket she still might go to icbc afterwards and try to screw you, so just be sure theres some way out of that.

or better yet,
tell her to go get the paint chip repaired and then have her mail you the invoice

thanks for the info. but why would it be 560? it usualy costes around 200 dollars to do spot painting unless she wants a new bumper repainted for her.... :S

matrixfwd 02-24-2011 06:39 PM

because if you were making an insurance claim, the shops want to make it look the best as well as maximize their revenue. So they sand and paint the whole bumper. Spot painting won't give you the best results. Shops are not going to help you penny pinch if they know the cost is being covered.

Isnt spot painting recommended? because the bumper wont be the same color as the car??

If it's his fault it goes on his insurance. He loses safe driving and he'll have to pay the deductible.
His insurance will probably go up.

It may not be worth him going that route.
In the long run, it might be better just to give her the $500.

I would still go through ICBC if I were her. Just saves headaches imo.
not good for you though.

Suprarz666 02-24-2011 07:24 PM

Go through ICBC, and pay icbc.
The color will be spot painted, but they still have to clear the entire thing or it'll look like shit.
The bumper needs to get taken off and reinstalled, which isnt free.
$560 is a pretty average price, it just seems ridiculous because it's a small spot.

RevRav 02-24-2011 07:34 PM

$560 to fix something that minor on the bumper sounds reasonable.

What generation was her TSX? She might want you to pay cash / as oppose to through ICBC (even if you pay out the repair cost through ICBC) , because she doesn't want it to show up on her record. As she might be planning to sell it back out.

If her TSX is fairly new, you can use the above point to negotiate with her. Maybe something around $450-500...and tell her its to her advantage it won't be on her car's history.

hk20000 02-24-2011 07:36 PM

you never know the bodyshop might see honeycomb structure damage and called a replacement.

should cost about 350 to paint the bumper......
had something similiar to my bumper
and i drive a tsx also

MG1 02-24-2011 08:29 PM

Take pictures in case the damage all of a sudden grows.

Ask for invoice and take it from there.

Does she look lonely? Hee hee.........

EDIT: nevermind, she might start stalking you. LOL Pay the $560.00

RiceIntegraRS 02-24-2011 08:50 PM

it is on the expensive side of a bumper job, but the price still seems about right. R&I Bumper, and Paint.

You don't have to declare them when you sell if there less then $2000 but if someone does a search they'll still show up.

VR6GTI 02-25-2011 07:32 AM

Quote sounds about right. Ask to see her quote, telling her to put it through icbc is a gamble it could be less, could be more. If you hit me I wouldn't waste my time getting 3 quotes.
