you can try your luck at cellunlock.net. if you use the discount crackb50 (last time i checked last week it still worked) you get 50% off.
otherwise there's the standard ebay and possibly some local options as well.

If it's an android, you can extract the unlock code yourself.

You can't. It's only a few phones from Samsung that you can do that. Quote:

To extract the unlock code, it depends which phone you have.
Each phone varies in procedure and software and such.
Your best bet is you run a quick search in the XDA Developers forums.
I unlocked the AT&T captivate and used it on Rogers before the cappy was even released here. Worked like a charm, but as I said, procedure depends on the device.
I'm a cheapass, so doing a bit of research to save $10-15 was well worth it for me.
That and the misplaced sense of self accomplishment. |

The amount of android phones that can be locked is really limited. Like less than a handful. So far only the Samsung galaxy s series. You made it sound like they can all be unlocked easily. Which they can't. Quote:

Posted via RS Mobile | it's definitely not a task for novices. it's quite complicated and am holding off until I really need an unlock. there are actually xda-created programs that will do it from an AT&T SGS, but for rogers you have to work inside the phone to get it out.
personally i'd rather pay for it, but it's not available yet |
