She didn't have to go through all that mess. They would've reduced it significantly if she called in, talked to them in a nice, professional way. Instead, what she probably did is she called them and talked down to them. The fact that she "laughed" at her bill when she first saw it is the first sign that she instantly thought she was right. If she had called telus, and been reasonable there is no doubt in my mind they could have reduced it significantly. Instead she probably called, and treated them like shit, and in turn they stuck it to her. Now she's making a big deal for no reason, and telus will have no choice but to give her what she wants. It always happens like this. There was a case in america where a guy tethered what he thought was unlimited data to his laptop, and he got raped by fees. He made a big deal, they reduced it. My sister works for rogers and there's been numerous occasions where she's given people large credits out of sympathy. The people you talk to when you call in are humans too, and if you're going to be a bitch to them and act all high and mighty, don't be surprised then they start fighting fire with fire. The point here is, what she is doing is morally incorrect. She is not above anyone else, and just as everyone else has to pay the overages, she should have to too. Businesses will always make large profits, its up to the consumer to make the informed decision whenever they use anyone's services. Lastly, making a $xx,xxx profit is not ridiculous, it's good business. I've got a few friends who are real estate agents and they tell me stories all the time about people who say "sell my house for $xxx, xxxx and whatever you get above that is yours". Next thing you know, the market explodes and that house sells for a million dollars over what the seller originally wanted. Yeah they're upset, yes they feel ripped off, but that's what they agreed to. Just because it's "unfair" doesn't mean it's fair for you to go ahead and change it. Telus offered her a service, and she used it. She knew she was going to be charged a lot for it, but she still used it. No sympathy whatsoever, good job telus. |
yea if she stayed in the kitchen she wouldnt have lost 37k |

At the same time though, in general, I find it annoying how much people are gouged for things like this. I was reading an article about Rogers recently, and how the telecommunications giant has been consistently buying back stock for the last few fiscal years--why you ask? Analysts believe it's because "Rogers has nothing else to spend it on--the major infrastructure plans it previously was paying for are now completed." So basically they're still shafting us with the high prices of infrastructure development (and claiming that it's too expensive to build more landline data infrastructure--I know, it doesn't affect us here, but they're a big player back east). And even moreso when we travel abroad--the cost of transmission of data is not as much as we get charged for it. Certainly "companies can charge whatever they want for the services that they provide", but there would also be an uproar if gasoline companies or supermarkets were to jack their rates up on a similar markup scheme. |

We could of course just call it a draw, and have everyone be equal, but then what would drive a person to be a doctor or a surgeon, if everyone is equal and everyone makes the same amount of money anyways? Certainly there will be some people who just have a love for the job and do it regardless, but for most people money is the motivation. The world is too materialistic for no one to be taken advantage of. |

wow... this made my day... good laugh.. Telus should just release the recorded calls so we can all hear her crying to get the data turned back on? i mean couldnt she just get a temp phone over there to use, wouldnt that be better?? people need to start thinking with their brains... |
 /thread |
lol.. and i'm assuming she's on a 3-year contract with telus. |
Every time I hear someone loose out or die, I secretly feel good inside because it gives me a better chance of survival in the corporation of Canada. |

you have no idea how retarded people are .... you'd know if you work in the cellular industry ... customers come in with the most retarded questions and complaints that goes beyond any logic, reasoning or any common sense what so ever.. ex. Customer comes in complains non stop about phone not turning on ... demands full refund or warranty. i take a look @ phone.. push power button ..phone turns on and works completely fine. What was wrong ? he dropped it and the phone turned off. Customer comes in ask if he can pay in rupees ... do i look like fuking Aladdin ? |

It's not their job to police themselves. It's not fair anyway cuz they have to make sure they can survive when things don't go well. If they give us a break now, does that mean they deserve a bail out if they're in trouble later? The job is on us (govt and regulators) to make sure they have competition to keep them honest. What about businesses that are barely scraping by or selling at a loss because they have too much competition? Is it ok for them to be propped up by tax money? Of course not. No one would be complaining cuz everything's cheap. You win some, you lose some. That's the way it goes. And we're talking about cell phone service, not something important like a water shortage. |
