I have no doubt that this bitch is completly retarded and she has done this to herself. BUT, Telus is also the biggest bunch of cock suckers I have dealt with in my life. Ok maybe they are second to ICBC

i completely agree with you. Not about telus, but our mobility industry in general. The reason telus is gonna give her a lot of her money back is to try to make people not realize the fact that it costs this woman the price of a brand new civic, to use the internet overseas. It absolutely does not cost nearly that much to provide this service - the pricing models they've set up are there to take advantage of people. If it takes epically dumb bitches to get this through to people already, one dumb bitch at a time, then i'm all for it. Ridiculous.

You go out to dinner and say your bill comes to $150. The restaurant's costs are only $100. Is it right to bitch and complain and get out of paying for those $50? It doesn't matter whether it's $50 or $36,000, you know what the items on the menu cost, the server even cut you off half way through, but you demanded more food, then fucking pay it!

If she had HALF a brain, she'd buy a simcard in egypt and just stick it in her phone, like any NORMAL person does when they visit anywhere.

At my job, I used to make $9/hour. One month my bill came to $600. My dad usually pays my phone bill because i rarely work, but I thought this amount was way too high to ask for my dad to pay. I could've easily gotten my dad to pay it and he wouldn't have said anything more than "you're an idiot" and paid it, but I didn't because I know it's my fault.

Promoting the easy way out is in no way a good way to improve anything.

life isnt fair, Im used to that. You are over thinking this. Im just curious as to what kind of profit is involved. I know pretty much every corparation has rediculous profit margines, its how buisness is done, but in my opinion making a 18,953% profit margin is rediculously unreasonable. (I made that number up btw) Sorry if you dont like my opinion, Id like to explain why I think this way, but Im pretty sure we are on different levels of thinking

What was she doing in Egypt in the first place? There are kitchens right here in Vancouver.

Not thinking from the perspective of the business, but what example does it set to everyone else? If you ever do anything that's your fault, if you whine and complain enough, it will be rectified?

She didn't have to go through all that mess. They would've reduced it significantly if she called in, talked to them in a nice, professional way. Instead, what she probably did is she called them and talked down to them. The fact that she "laughed" at her bill when she first saw it is the first sign that she instantly thought she was right. If she had called telus, and been reasonable there is no doubt in my mind they could have reduced it significantly. Instead she probably called, and treated them like shit, and in turn they stuck it to her. Now she's making a big deal for no reason, and telus will have no choice but to give her what she wants. It always happens like this. There was a case in america where a guy tethered what he thought was unlimited data to his laptop, and he got raped by fees. He made a big deal, they reduced it.

My sister works for rogers and there's been numerous occasions where she's given people large credits out of sympathy. The people you talk to when you call in are humans too, and if you're going to be a bitch to them and act all high and mighty, don't be surprised then they start fighting fire with fire.

The point here is, what she is doing is morally incorrect. She is not above anyone else, and just as everyone else has to pay the overages, she should have to too. Businesses will always make large profits, its up to the consumer to make the informed decision whenever they use anyone's services.

Lastly, making a $xx,xxx profit is not ridiculous, it's good business. I've got a few friends who are real estate agents and they tell me stories all the time about people who say "sell my house for $xxx, xxxx and whatever you get above that is yours". Next thing you know, the market explodes and that house sells for a million dollars over what the seller originally wanted. Yeah they're upset, yes they feel ripped off, but that's what they agreed to. Just because it's "unfair" doesn't mean it's fair for you to go ahead and change it. Telus offered her a service, and she used it. She knew she was going to be charged a lot for it, but she still used it. No sympathy whatsoever, good job telus.

yea if she stayed in the kitchen she wouldnt have lost 37k

I'll be honest here. I've got one hand on both sides of the fence here. On one side I'm on the "OK, seriously, what the fuck were you thinking you stupid idiot?" I mean, in Egypt in a time like this. And you go to turn on your data? And then you get warned and yet you turn it back on? The customer service call must have told her "Miss, you have accrued $x in charges, are you certain you want to continue using your data? It costs $y/MB in Egypt". She's a fucking retard for keeping on going.

At the same time though, in general, I find it annoying how much people are gouged for things like this. I was reading an article about Rogers recently, and how the telecommunications giant has been consistently buying back stock for the last few fiscal years--why you ask? Analysts believe it's because "Rogers has nothing else to spend it on--the major infrastructure plans it previously was paying for are now completed." So basically they're still shafting us with the high prices of infrastructure development (and claiming that it's too expensive to build more landline data infrastructure--I know, it doesn't affect us here, but they're a big player back east). And even moreso when we travel abroad--the cost of transmission of data is not as much as we get charged for it. Certainly "companies can charge whatever they want for the services that they provide", but there would also be an uproar if gasoline companies or supermarkets were to jack their rates up on a similar markup scheme.

Dude, seriously I dont disagree with you. She has to accept responibility for her own actions. If the whole world did that what a better place we would live in. But my area of concern is, what kind of world would we live in if people wernt taking advantage of other people all the time. My curiosity is way off topic for this thread, but this subject sparks it. I've wondered about this a few times before, and posted hoping maybe someone could shine some light.

I'm sorry but I firmly believe no one can get anywhere (in the modern world) without taking advantage of someone in some way, shape or form. There always has to be a loser, and there always has to be a winner.

We could of course just call it a draw, and have everyone be equal, but then what would drive a person to be a doctor or a surgeon, if everyone is equal and everyone makes the same amount of money anyways? Certainly there will be some people who just have a love for the job and do it regardless, but for most people money is the motivation. The world is too materialistic for no one to be taken advantage of.

Just pisses me off when people use their stupidity/ignorance to get out of anything/everything. Whatever happened to owning up to what you did?

If she gets any amount credited for this, I should get my overages credited too because "I didn't know it was going to cost so much". It's like we're rewarding stupidity and the lack of awareness.

She probably tethered her iphone to her macbook to upload pics of herself to her facebook so all her gay little blond haired $8 starbucks coffee holding fake tit having, dog in chanel bag carrying poseur friends could comment and say "OMGGG UR IN EGYPT!! YOU SEXCI BITCH LOLOLOLOL". Too bad she didn't get killed in the riots, that'd be a sweet facebook status "LOL HELP IM BEING ATTACKED!!!!!!!!"

wow... this made my day... good laugh..

Telus should just release the recorded calls so we can all hear her crying to get the data turned back on?

i mean couldnt she just get a temp phone over there to use, wouldnt that be better?? people need to start thinking with their brains...

Every time I hear someone loose out or die, I secretly feel good inside because it gives me a better chance of survival in the corporation of Canada.

It's actually not Telus eating the lion's share. When you use another foreign network, that network charges YOUR network an exorbitant rate. In any case, I think she is going to end up paying given that they already warned her. She should also have inquired as to the data rates -- less developed countries cost the most!

you have no idea how retarded people are ....
you'd know if you work in the cellular industry ... customers come in with the most retarded questions and complaints that goes beyond any logic, reasoning or any common sense what so ever..
ex. Customer comes in complains non stop about phone not turning on ... demands full refund or warranty. i take a look @ phone.. push power button ..phone turns on and works completely fine. What was wrong ? he dropped it and the phone turned off.

Customer comes in ask if he can pay in rupees ... do i look like fuking Aladdin ?

You would be amazed at the number of not-so-tech-savvy borderline tech-retarded people.

StylinRed 03-04-2011 02:26 AM

Most of these (smart) businesses don't charge based on cost of their service; they charge based on how much leverage they have over you. It gives them incentive to take risks and to get their costs down.. otherwise their margins wouldn't be as fat as they are.

It's not their job to police themselves. It's not fair anyway cuz they have to make sure they can survive when things don't go well. If they give us a break now, does that mean they deserve a bail out if they're in trouble later? The job is on us (govt and regulators) to make sure they have competition to keep them honest.

What about businesses that are barely scraping by or selling at a loss because they have too much competition? Is it ok for them to be propped up by tax money? Of course not. No one would be complaining cuz everything's cheap. You win some, you lose some. That's the way it goes. And we're talking about cell phone service, not something important like a water shortage.
