I think it's a good thing the woman refused to pay the bill. This shows what a rip off Canadian telecoms are when it comes to data.

This shows that locking cellphones to carrier is a shitty practice. The woman could have used her cell using the local carrier in Egypt if it wasn't locked.

Also, they advertise their phones as "world phones". Clearly, using you Telus phone to roam in another country is a big bag of They should be sued for false advertising.

Also, at all the lemmings asking for the woman to pay Telus. As if it affects you cunts in any way if Telus gets their over inflated charges paid or not. It's actually in our benefit that she doesn't, but you're too dumb to realize that.

umm I was not talking bout this incident specifically, hence the part where I said "not even considering roaming charges, robellus rapes you in the ass for tethering charges and ppu data charges if your plan isn't compatible. "

There are many other stories out there of people getting billed 30-80k for tethering when they weren't supposed to.

I still think most of the time is the customer's fault (working as a techs upport so yea I know most of the stories). I am not a person who checks his bill every other day but I do know what services I got myself into. Haven't got screw once by any cell phone providers, ISP, cable, banks ........ because I make sure everything is set on my part.

A golden rule I go by is Never trust the CSR you speak to unless you ask them the same question 3 times and have them confirm it.

As far as the tethering charges it is advice on all cell phone providers not to use it. It also stats in your contracts in fine prints as well. THere are alos instructions in your phone manuals to teach you how to turn off your 3G if you need to. If people are too dumb and stupid to read and do some reserach then I am sorry but that's what people should do.

There are people who call for tech support for the most stupid reason (they would rather wait on the phone for 20 to 30mins than to do some simple trouble shooting). i have people calling in because their remote would not work (o yea coz your battery died), router won't work yet nothing is connected to it and all kinds of issue that could be fix if people only be a little smarter. But I guess people these days are just not as smart or willing to do the work as it was before.

I've never had issues with any cell providers either. But then again I probably know more about their service than their reps thanks to Howardforums.

I agree people are dumb, don't get me wrong. Refer to Marco's posts about customers even being able to run up thousands of dollars worth of cell phone charges. I just do not like the fact that they don't just cap it at a certain number, then cut off service until the bill is paid in full. In the end, they have to go through all this hassle with the customer and receive all this negative publicity (referring to previous articles about tethering charges) and it's not like they are gonna get the full amount from the customer anyway, whether it's 10k or 37k.

Roaming data rate = $0.025/kB (per the link) = $25/MB.

From the article, she used on the nearly 1.6GB, or 1600MB.

$25 * 1600MB = $40,000.

Wrong, most of the cost comes from accessing towers that aren't owned by Telus.

My brothers friend went overseas for a month or something and racked up a 19k bill by forgetting to take out his SIM card/enable airplane mode and just connecting to towers, not even from any use. Virgin greatly reduced his bill because it was at least an accident (but he was still dumb as fuck), this bitch is just plain dumb, they ut her off and warned her but she told them to put it back. Fail.
