My GF did the same when we traveled to the US recently. Called Rogers and asked what she needed to do this time, cause the previous trip she called and asked yet, was supposed to have been put on a plan, yet then got a $500 bill.
These companies suck. Once your bill reaches $200 they should be notifying you that something is wrong so you can change it.
To address all those who say we should be smarter: my CC company calls me when my monthly bill is more than normal to make sure everything is alright, and they cap me at $12K so I don't go crazy and spend $37K in a month. Why can a CC company figure this out yet major telecom companies cannot?

I do not agree with this part. What is happening in Wisconsin is fan-fucking-tastic. Similar measures are occurring in 10 other states and I hope it catches on and comes here. Public unions are paid too much and need to have their benefits and bargaining power rolled back.

I think you forgot the point of running a business is make profit while providing a service or commodity.
I didn't forget that. Companies need and SHOULD be always making profits.
But they shouldn't be making these profits by fucking you and me up the ass.
Profits should come from an honest way of doing business and this is CRITICAL to the business and the people it services because it reflects the quality of the business and the value of the services it provides.
If a business is giving you shit, diarrhea, cock and ass juice, OF COURSE they will need to fuck you in the ass in order to get by, but if what they're giving you is truly good and worth a god damn thing, they will make that money regardless and will have no problem with profits.

not even considering roaming charges, robellus rapes you in the ass for tethering charges and ppu data charges if your plan isn't compatible. Yes people should be punished, but how about capping the charges at a reasonable amount? How about calling their customers the second they notice unusual activity on their account based on their usage history?
There have been many stories about idiots getting 30k, 50k, even 80k phone bills just for tethering when they weren't supposed to. That's fucked up when a phone bill costs more than a fuckin car.
The telcos are so inhuman that they are willing to ruin people's lives over a ridiculous phone bill where the costs for the service they provide is a fraction of the bill? That's just sickening. Then they try to act like they're the nice guys and "negotiate" the price from $50k down to $3k. What a joke. Why it's legal to charge rates like this beyond me.
