Stonecutter's Song Lyrics

Who controls the British Crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do, we do.
Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do, we do.
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star? (justin bieber?)
We do, we do.
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do!

You can see some historical gas prices at this site:
http://www.bcgasprices.com/Retail_Price_Chart.aspx

Try comparing BC with Washington state. They are paying 94 cents/litre average vs our 1.25 average. We pay 30% more!

Time to start gassing up across the border, again. Filling up down there compared to here means I can buy a 6-pack and candy with the savings.

It might not be such a bad thing,

More people riding bikes and walking more = Healthier people
Healthier people = More fit girls
More fit girls = Higher % chance that ill lose my virginity to someone under 300lbs

giggity giggity

*** PLUS

The more girls move around = The less clothing they require...

For every reaction theres an opposite and equal reaction

The gas price is making getting a hybrid to roll around the city more and more attractive.

My wife drives her dad's X5 and the gas is killing us. Last month, she ended paying 685 in gas alone, not including insurance and shit... I'm sure we can get a nice lease on hybrid with 685 a month.

Something to think about is all these gas companies own oil fields. Do you kink it costs them $100 per barrel to get it out of the ground.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_oil_sands

The capital cost of the equipment required to mine the sands and haul it to processing is a major consideration in starting production. The NEB estimates that capital costs raise the total cost of production to C$18 to C$20 per barrel for a new mining operation and C$18 to C$22 per barrel for a SAGD operation. This does not include the cost of upgrading the crude bitumen to synthetic crude oil, which makes the final costs C$36 to C$40 per barrel for a new mining operation.

that carbon tax is so freaken bullshit....and also yea we don't pay that much compared to a lot of countries etc as stated about with new zealand..but cars there / europe etc are also generally a lot smaller or are on diesel and last way more than our gas per tank...they also have like 91 as the minimum octane or something..even shit cars there run on 91/94 all over europe

saudi arabia,
same population almost
half the GDP of Canada
offers healthcare as well
offers free education also but Including University
less resources by far
yet they charge their citizens around $0.20/L

-_-

(places like kuwait etc etc oil rich nations also charge pennies to their citizens)

I heard that we send our oil from AB to ON to get it refined, and then it is piped back to the west. Is there any truth to that? I find that absurd we send it half way across the country to refine it , can't you just build a refinery in bc or sask for western use?

we have double the GDP
so many other resources etc

im sure that could counteract the population density

even then does that really account for 7x the price

gas is $.85/l in Russia (for A92) but of course the cost of refining crude in Russia costs $2.3 ($3.8 in usa) a barrel and diesel use is high (that price is causing Putin to go nuts and he's forced gas companies to "dramatically" cut prices @ the pump but by what I don't know maybe the same prices they were in Jan? $0.76/L)
gas in the UK is $2.08/L and they have NO oil (but major taxes on oil too)

privatization=fail

You're close.

Yes some "western crude oil" is shipped to Ontario to be refined, though the majority of refining in Canada takes place in Alberta.

Now having said that, the majority of our crude oil is shipped stateside, and later returned to us in the form of consumer hydrocarbons. The main reasons for this is as follows; (In the usa there is...)
-Lower labor costs, more available labor
-Less stringent enviromental regulations
-Pre existing facilities
-Logistical advantages for supporting industries/services

The main problems with increasing Canadian refining capacity would be;
-High costs of construction, competition for labor.
-High costs of operations
-Climate related expenses due to sever weather
-Enviromental regulations
-Logistical disadvantage of Canada being spread over a large un-populated land mass.

There is a lot more that could be said, but that should give you a better idea whats up.

Jason

Edit** It's worth noting that the royaties program in Canada is a bit of a joke, the incentives which were put in place to encourage the recovery of Canadian resources need to be revised, this would reduce the amount of taxation taking place at the pump... I guess the Gov prefers to collect their money from the people instead of the corporations, works out great for people directly employed in oil/gas who make the big bucks, but not so good from everyone else.
