I need to know.

This is not a racist question. I am just so curious and I have talked to so many people about this and no one knows.

In high school you will always, and I mean always see mostly Vietnamese kids wearing name brands. I see grade
8, 9 , 10 , 11 wearing trues, R&R all the new brands that are expensive. When I mean expensive $400 jeans, $200 jackets etc.

Also you will see there parents rocking it as well. Usually its the moms with bebe. AND when you go to river rock casino
you see chinese and vietnamese throwing $100s on the table.

How are they able to wear this. Maybe some of there parents are doctors or have a great business but not all are rich.
Maybe some of them work but my buddys back in high school never worked and were always rocking $200 shoxs,
G star jackets, north face bombers $300, you guys know what I mean.

AGAIN I DONT HATE or am racist, Just much respect to the baller status of these familys.

Can someone finally help me with this question lol.

s300ae 03-11-2011 08:52 AM

Good chance they could be fake jeans. Meanwhile, You can pick up R&R and trues at nordstrom rack for $100 if not cheaper. That could explain the influx of horrid fake jeans all over this province.
It still doesnt make sense to me why ppl wear those brands! They were huge 5 years ago. If you're paying over 200 for those jeans you're getting ripped off. Sometimes underground at metrotown has pretty good deals on expensive authentic jeans as well.

I'll stick to my diesels (italian) and hudsons (USA). Awesome fit, washes, and great quality. None of that fugly huge pocket and stitching all over them.

A group of viet guys our company used to contract to do stucco came to do dirty stucco work decked out in rhinestoned audiger shirts, true jeans, etc etc

All of it was fake, but that was their work clothes and at one time was probably daily wear lol

why dont u ask them? i was curious and i asked and they told me,

- grow-op (sometimes it could be family business)
- line of credit or loan
- legit business
- legit business plus money laundry on the side
- hard worker with hard earn money, spend money on nice car and clothes because they care about the look
- loan sharking

* with that being said... although they wear nice clothes but normally they dont have too much in terms of quantity.. usually alternate by 3-5 jeans and couple of shirts..

RCubed 03-11-2011 09:09 AM

The kids save up and sell are their toys to buy one pair of jeans and one shirt then wear the same thing every day.
:troll:

darkfroggy 03-11-2011 09:11 AM

You can live like a king on $8/hr when you don't have to pay for rent or food.

This and I bet a lot of them save up to buy these clothing/shoes and skimp on everything else.

A lot of asians will care about status and appearance more than actual worth. So in turn for looking good, they get crap food, housing and bank accounts (if any).

Personally, I'd rather save the hundred dollars on jeans and shoes and put up a good savings account and put good food on the table but that's just me.

MG1 03-11-2011 09:23 AM

Like CRS mentioned, it's all about how you look in public.

There are a lot of rich families out there, too. Anyway, people have different priorities. As long as it doesn't involve illegal activity or degredation of our way of life as we know it.

I'm good.......... everything I have, I earned without hurting others or having to pretend to be something I am not.

Somehow, "You are what you eat," comes to mind. Perhaps you are what you wear? Fake stuff = fake person.

Self esteem issues.................

Anyway, jelly ain't gonna get you anywhere, I suppose.

El Bastardo 03-11-2011 09:30 AM

Aren't you the guy who asked about getting a fake ID made? Are you a professional troll?

s300ae 03-11-2011 09:30 AM

hahah Yes I did ask that. But I can never wear fakes. I feel that I am trying to prove something I am not.

Didn't Boys Co get caught selling fakes?
I know it was one store in metro that was selling fakes, but I can't remember.

And a lot of asian families are all show and no go.
They live in an old house or rent a house or live in a basement, but spend their money on a nice car; bmw, benzo, etc. and buy nice purses, clothes, get a $60 haircut. That's honestly their mentality. I know a few people/families that are like this.

Though, some of them are just rich. They own a bbt place or restaurant etc.
One of my buddies own's Sun Sui Wah and I know the girl (kind of) who owns Pho Hoang, Golden Swan and I know a few others that own really popular restaurants, so they do very well for themselves. Oddly enough, the children aren't that flashy at all, they have nice things, but don't walk around like they're better than anyone. They aren't cocky or arrogant or anything. They are genuinely nice and caring people.

drunkrussian 03-11-2011 11:06 AM

Op, if you think having a wardrobe worth a few thousand dollars is baller, you're in highschool or stuck in a highschool mentality. Any broke idiot can buy thousands of dollars of clothing and most people with decent paying office jobs invest in a $XXX suit or a $XXXX jacket, and it's not really an issue.

Show me the same nammer kids and their parents who you described having a paid off house, a lease-free car and no debt, and then we'll at least approaching the topic of "pretty well off", let alone baller.

AzNightmare 03-11-2011 11:22 AM

Buying designer clothes is a horrible investment.
These companies are lucky there are enough morons in this planet to make them rich.

I'm expecting my belt to be able to do at least 1/4 of what Batman's belt can do if it costs $500.

s300ae 03-11-2011 12:21 PM

Back in soviet Russia, my dad didn't get his first pair of Levis until he was 18. And even then, they costed 2 months worth of pay.
Talk about saving up.

It's not hard for high school kids to get into drug dealing and you have no idea how many kids these days drug deal. Be it marijuana or crack, you can make a boatload of money in one day.

Majority of Vietnamese parents are in the drug business.

Jegz 03-11-2011 12:37 PM

Namscams

Energy 03-11-2011 02:25 PM

Ehh its just their parents are rich or they starve themselves for a few weeks to afford those. In any case, let them wear their designer clothes it just makes them look even more silly.
