New Driver, New Problems, more questions

Hey wassup revscene! I got a couple of questions for all of you people.

First off.. i don't have my N (i get it in 2 weeks) and i'm not really that "smart" with cars soo.. bare with me if i ask really dumb questions :p

2. Would the celica be a good first car? I'm planning to keep this car throughout my university/college years, so i want to make sure this car is very reliable. I am also planning to throw as much money as i can at this car to make it look nice/safe/loud

3. Is the celica good on gas?

4. Is the celica considered a sports car or coupe or hatchback??

5. Should i just buy a new car??

6. How much are you paying for insurance a month / year? How much would insurance be for a new driver like me for this car?

7. What are some other cars i should consider buying, my second option is a 2005 scion tc.

Here is one of the celicas i might purchase.

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bn...270861573.html

Oh yeah and if i buy that car, would i have to pay it all up front? or would i have to throw down a bit of down payment?

Thanks for your time, i hope i wasn't annoying aha

A lot of those questions can solved by a quick google.

Why don't you ask your parents to help you with understanding financing when you go purchase? A used car dealership is going to eat a 17/18 year old alive if you don't even know how financing and terms work.

Do I look like fucking Miss.Cleo to you? How the hell was I supposed to know that?

I gave you legitimate advice so you don't get bent over at the dealership.

Enjoy

2. Throwing a lot of money at a car is generally a bad idea. But you sound pretty wealthy.

3. Not bad

4. Sporty Hatch I believe. Rear glass comes up with the hatch.

5. Are you wealthy?

6. It's going to cost you A LOT. Almost 3k a lot.

7. ...

RiceIntegraRS 03-17-2011 09:38 PM

Honestly your kinda asking questions that dont really make sense to me. Your asking if the car is good on guess and how much insurance cost, yet ur asking if buying a new car is the better route.

Possibly if u gave us a budget of how much u can spend, or how much ur willing to spend, will help us help you figure out which is the best option for you.

Sorry if i didn't make this thread clear.

I'm willing to spend about 8000-15000 on my first car.

Holeshot 03-17-2011 09:48 PM

Just buy a car that's affordable to you, one you will enjoy and one that looks nice in your eyes.
It's not like buying your first streetbike where too much throttle will send you off the road, its a car.
Its your first car, you'll most likely crash it anyways doing something stupid or way too much of a noob to avoid someone else not paying attention and crash it there.
Do what everyone does, buy a decent 4 banger and be done with it.

It's a scion tc 2005...

8-15k. Buy something that's 5k then.

it's your first car, just don't go buy something that'll rape your wallet and you'll be fine

maybe if someone is fucking retarded sure...

hirevtuner 03-17-2011 09:58 PM

i dont think you can get a new car with 15k with insurance unless you get a Hyundai

just get something you would enjoy and not what other ppl thinks

SpuGen 03-17-2011 09:59 PM

Your parents are broke. And you're throwing a bunch of money at a car you don't really need.

If you were my son, I'd kick you out.

Ikkaku 03-17-2011 10:59 PM

Celicas are generally reliable, it has been for me. Insurance is less than a RSX I believe. Be good to it, and it'll be good to you. There are some stupid problems with it that Toyota doesn't care about, such as the serpentine belt which becomes squeeky after a while from moisture. They usually tell you to change the serpentine tensioner, but it's usually not required. Also, the 1zzfe (engine in the GT) has a tendency to burn engine oil after a while, so be aware of that.

Scion tC is decent, as it has a bit of low end torque which is useful for city driving.

TOS'd 03-17-2011 11:10 PM

Can you even drive a manual?

CP.AR 03-17-2011 11:35 PM

OP.

if you want a good, reliable car that won't rape your wallet

GET A COROLLA

I'm NOT kidding.
You will also gain instant parent approval.
Seeing that you don't even have your N yet, I would stay away from 2 door vehicles just to save a little bit more on insurance.

Sure a corolla may seem lame, but it's better than getting an XYZ sports car and getting raped by ICBC. Later on you should also be able to sell your corolla for around the same price you bought it at (assuming you buy used), since they hold value pretty well.

Oh yeah heres a pro-tip
don't rage/flame at anyone on RS. people can dig shit up like 4chan. The last thing you want is to end up like Bradford/14 dollar baller (ie: get made into a joke)

Nlkko 03-18-2011 12:40 AM

Answers:
2. Yes. Reliable. Not too loud, please.
3. Yes, not super great, you'd get around 25-30mpg depends on how you drive.
4. All 3.
5. No.
6. Around 300 for 2million liabilities, 300 collision, 300 comprehensive. Half if only liabilities.
7. A beater for 2k max. Pocket the rest.

Advice: Get a GTS if you want some fun. The 1zz engine is tuned for fuel economy so it's gonna be slow.

Can finance but better pay it all off because it's cheaper.

baggdis300 03-18-2011 01:08 AM

Would the celica be a good first car? I'm planning to keep this car throughout my university/college years, so i want to make sure this car is very reliable. I am also planning to throw as much money as i can at this car to make it look nice/safe/loud

yes it would be reliable, and don't be THAT GUY with the riced out celica

3. Is the celica good on gas?

yes it is

4. Is the celica considered a sports car or coupe or hatchback??

its a sports hatchback.

5. Should i just buy a new car??

unless you can afford it hell no..
6. How much are you paying for insurance a month / year? How much would insurance be for a new driver like me for this car?

probably around 120-250 a month...
my 05 is300 was 330 a month with zero discount.

7. What are some other cars i should consider buying, my second option is a 2005 scion tc.

scion is good, look into a civic(reliable as fuck) or if you can afford a new car, the new festiva looks pretty promising, the mazada 3 is also a good car.

you can finance, but more than likely they would give you a shitty interest rate and you would need a co-signer due to having zero credit.

its generally a good idea to buy your first car with cash, so if you do crash it, you wont be paying for a car that you dont have anymore..
