I was there. Section 201. Ghostrider was a little too far for me to bean him with anything in the poncho storm.
Fucking epic game. One of the best live soccer games I've ever seen. Lots of scoring chances, great defense, and a good crowd. I brought my new Whitecaps jersey and free scarf.
The moment of the game was actually the 4-2 goal by Toronto FC. Some hooligans behind me were chanting
"FOUR-TO-ONE...TORONTO YOU ARE DONE!"
The rest of us were just about to join them but then the 4-2 goal. It happened RIGHT as they said "DONE".
Without missing a beat, they started with
"FOUR-TO-TWO! TORONTO YOU ARE THROUGH!"
The entire section laughed.
I'll probably go to another few games this year. My friends are thinking New York Red Bulls.
Season tickets start at $319...I'm gonna watch another game or two and then decide if I want to buy or share a pair next year.
lol the best one was:
toronto fc taunted us: "you guys dont have real grass"
one of the guys of the vancouver fc: "you guys don't smoke real grass"
lol i love sitting around the toronto fc fans, much more entertainment.
I got a chance to watch the game yesterday and it was one of the best outdoor sporting event I've watched in quite some time. The crowds were electrifying and the cheering were louder as the game went on.
I have never been a huge soccer fan but I think the Whitecaps are doing wonderful things in Vancouver. They have a solid team and like all Vancouver sports teams, they give back to the community.
With tickets starting from 20 bucks, there are no reason to not watch a Whitecaps game every once in a while. Especially in the summer with great sunny weather, it's an awesome family attraction.
Can't wait to check out the whitecap games..Was in Marseille tonight for the PSG-OM game..Absolutely awesome astmosphere with vulgar chants to go with..Epic!!
My dad got me and him season tickets, section 225, row 8. Really was a great atmosphere and really exciting game. I went to World Cup in South Africa, and while obviously I can't compare the atmosphere's, I did think that as a whole it had a good European vibe to it. I thought Toronto really wasn't that great. Both of our forwards are big guys with good heads, and it showed. I thought number 20 who had the beard and got injured at the end of the first half was our best player.
Mind if I ask how much you paid for season tickets? I know they start at just over $300 but how much are they really...
I love the atmosphere at Empire. Stomping on the stands is just a ton of fun.

My pair of cheapies cost me just under $750. Corners row 2, can't complain for that!

THE ROCK: "Oh, you like jelly. Well, jelly's a good one. The Rock says this; write this down. When you leave here, go down to Dunkin Donuts, get the biggest jelly donut you can find!"
(crowd pops louder)
LAWLER: "Oh, no... this guy's a COP!"
THE ROCK: "Write it down. Hold that jelly donut up, SQUEEZE all the jelly out, squeeze all the-- write it down; you like writing things down-- squeeze all the jelly out, and then-- write this down, you don't want to forget this-- TURN that sumbitch sideways, and stick it STRAIGHT UP your CANDY ASS!"
map looks like its for bc place, but the pricing should be right
$319 GREEN - Price Per Game: $16.79
$418 TEAL - Price Per Game: $22.00
$494 AQUA - Price Per Game: $26.00
$589 YELLOW - Price Per Game: $31.00
$798 BLUE - Price Per Game: $42.00
$969 PURPLE - Price Per Game: $51.00
$1292-$1482 CLUB - Price Per Game: $68.00-$78.00
I bought the $319 ones and sit in the corner. It's not that bad actually. I went to find some friends that were in the aqua section (behind the net) and you can't really see the whole game. The price I'd higher but i would rather sit where I'm sitting than pay more to sit behind the net.
I split a pair with my buddy. We will go to whatever we can together. If one of us can't make it, then we bring our gfs or whoever. For the price, you can't beat it. But both of us are huge soccer fans so we've been waiting for something like this for a while.
Also plan on traveling to Seattle when Vancouver plays the sounders at quest field. Anybody else in for a road trip? Posted via RS Mobile
Went to the game on Saturday, and wow, probably one of the most exciting sporting events I have ever been to. Just absolutely electric.
I was sitting pretty much dead center in section 211, five rows up so I had a great seat which made it that much better. Christy Clark was sitting right behind me
Didn't get seasons tickets this year, but definitely going to pick up tickets to a few more games this summer.
I was really impressed with Davide Chiumiento, amazing footwork when he has the ball. Hassli and Harris also looked very good.
So, I watched the tape. Good for Vancouver, winning on their first outing in MLS. Now, I never followed MLS. Ever. Guess that will change
That said:
- Is that standard refereeing? My God, that ref was hideous.
- Equally hideous were both teams defence. Yuck.
- It was an... interesting... watch. Like watching Brazilian Serie C. What we would call a 'pelada'.
- Are there playoffs in MLS, or is it like the European/South American nationals, where the one with the most points wins? I'm too lazy to look it up.
- And, oh, I hope Vancouver gets better. Again, what I have seen of Toronto so far (saw a few games last year) has been almost depressing.
-Pretty standard reffing. MLS seems to let players get away with a lot to compensate for a, shall we say, substandard skill set compared to some of the elite leagues. That said, it does make for a more physical game where bigger players can push, shove and even occasionally steamroll and hit smaller players without getting carded or even called. Isn't that what American sports fans want to see instead of players rolling on the floor and getting carried away on a stretcher?
-There are playoffs in the MLS. Kind of a weird system, just one home and away game. The finals are just stupid IMO - neutral site with no top seed advantage.
What the bigger deal to me is the top four MLS teams going to the CCL (Concacaf Champs league) and the SuperLiga to battle it out against the top Mexican teams such as Cruz Azul or CF Pachuca, which gets pretty competitive as the Mexican league is in general considered a stronger group. If an MLS team wins THAT competition, they can then go on to play the Club World Cup where they might play a final against teams such as Internazionale, Barcelona or Manchester United. That's sort of the interesting thing about club soccer, there is a huge world to play against even if you win the MLS cup.
I'm not the biggest MLS fan. Only watched a few of the MLS finals prior to Vancouver joining, and really only knew/cared it existed after the David Beckham splash. But I could definitely get used to watching more of this if what we saw on Saturday was any indication of the rest of the season.
But this Sat isn't going to look as good. Chiumiento & Salinas injured, DeMerit & Boxall on national duty....

That's how playoffs are done in European soccer, except Europe doesn't do playoffs for league games

If u were to buy the jersey would you get the short or long sleeve in white? Posted via RS Mobile
Long sleeve all day, so much nicer! So glad I beat the rush and ordered mine a couple months ago with my staff pro deal. Colder day, sleeves down...Warmer day, pull'em up!

I don't like wearing long sleeves but the long looks better for the Whitecaps kit. The sleeves on the short sleeve are down to my elbows for some reason...the higher cuts like on the Italian jerseys look better.
My friends gave me a blue short sleeve for my birthday. I'm gonna go buy a white long sleeve myself.
