English Premier League giants make summer visit to Vancouver
Manchester City FC to face 'Caps on July 18
Whitecaps FC season ticket holders will receive tickets for the July 18 friendly as a special bonus, with the Blue and White still selling 2011 season tickets at a pro-rated price until the end of this month.
Why not? They had plenty of chances today, just couldn't finish!

THE ROCK: "What's your favorite donut?"
DETECTIVE #2: "Jelly."
THE ROCK: "Oh, you like jelly. Well, jelly's a good one. The Rock says this; write this down. When you leave here, go down to Dunkin Donuts, get the biggest jelly donut you can find!"
(crowd pops louder)
LAWLER: "Oh, no... this guy's a COP!"
THE ROCK: "Write it down. Hold that jelly donut up, SQUEEZE all the jelly out, squeeze all the-- write it down; you like writing things down-- squeeze all the jelly out, and then-- write this down, you don't want to forget this-- TURN that sumbitch sideways, and stick it STRAIGHT UP your CANDY ASS!"
Good to see us beat Montreal today but it's a little bittersweet for me because I'd originally planned on being in Montreal this week.
After the first 25 minutes of good Impact possession and us instantly giving it away when we'd wrestle down the ball I was a little concerned but all in all a good ending. Teibert sure had some brilliant crosses today.

La liga and epl that's where its at. Don't get me wrong I like where the mls is going but its gonna take some time till we see actual "football". If there was better investment in football like hockey we be on par with top tier. Wished the caps could actually hold on tothe ball a little longer than a few seconds lol. Posted via RS Mobile

Still no. Without the fan interest, owners won't get the same level of return on investment. The revenue that top teams generate is massive, with sales of merchandise around the world, TV revenue, 60,000+ capacity stadiums, and something the MLS will never have, the Champions League, which gives the top European teams around 20 million Euros in TV revenue alone.

I love soccer, played it all my life and I do agree that MLS isn't in the same league as top tier Euro leagues, but its still really good. Last few years, MLS is beginning to get pretty good players coming over from Latin America and Europe and I think as the league continues to expand and get more corporate support, they will be able to retain top quality players.
Whitecaps are technically an expansion team, and they will have growing pains, but they show a lot of promise and if the team is managed well in the front office, they will become a fun and successful team to watch down the line.
As for people complaining with games being 1-0, etc.... well, you just don't get soccer.
The struggling Vancouver Whitecaps have fired head coach Teitur Thordarson and goalkeeper coach Mike Salmon.
Tom Soehn, the current director of soccer operations, will take over as head coach for the rest of the season.
The expansion Whitecaps have not won in MLS since opening day March 19 -- when they defeated Toronto FC 4-2 -- and have a 1-5-6 record.
Paul Barber, Whitecaps FC chief executive officer, says: "Teitur and Mike have served the club extremely well in recent seasons but we feel that today's changes are necessary in order to accelerate the process of turning around our difficult start to the season."
Soehn will have help from assistant coaches Denis Hamlett and Colin Miller.
Thordarson, a native of Iceland, took over as the Whitecaps coach in December 2007.
Surprised he got fired halfway through the expansion season. Before the start of the year they were praising him and saying how they were behind him 100%. I suppose they always say that though.
I wonder if there were some differences between what he was preaching to the players, and what Bobby L / Soehn wanted to see on the field.
One thing I didn't like about Thardarson's coaching though was getting the players to hang back all the time, then the defense would fire the ball up for hail mary's that guys like Hassli and Camilo could never get to. Seemed to happen 10-20 times a game at least and rarely did it ever work.
Need to play South American style... more ball possession!
I don't think our squad is fit for that sort of game but I could be wrong. I wasn't expecting a winning season to start but I want to see big things from the Whitecaps in the future.
My brother who played for the whitecaps residency and is close friends with tibert says all the player thought he was going to be fired wayyy sooner, and it was a definite surprise that he started as the coach in the first place
