Man shot on skytrain platform

Man shot at SkyTrain station, then rides train
He rode injured from Royal Oak to Edmonds

BURNABY (NEWS1130) - Quite a frightening commute for some SkyTrain users Tuesday afternoon. A man who was shot on a SkyTrain platform managed to hobble onto an eastbound train, full of rush-hour passengers.

The attack happened just after 5 p.m., at the Royal Oak station. "The victim was on the platform. There were a lot of people around, because it was rush hour. A shot or several shots were fired at him," explains Sgt. Ted De Jager.

Instead of waiting for help, the man boarded the eastbound train, but police caught up with him at Edmonds Station. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Police will be interviewing witnesses before concluding whether one or a number of people were responsible.

i was on the platform around 530ish and saw that there were 4 officers standing in front of the stairwell that was taped off..
lol, the guy doing the shooting had some fuckin balls to shoot the guy on a freaking skytrain station with tons of cameras.....

I think its safe to say that gun violence is on the rise.

Yes, I'm asian. Yes, I'm racist, but racial profiling is more statistically correct sometimes.

I don't understand. Instead of waiting for help, he boarded the skytrain?
Does help reach you faster if you board a skytrain??

dude, lets be reasonable, we've been hearing about it more often now in the news.

here's 164,000 links to support my claim:

http://www.google.ca/search?q=gun+vi...tics+vancouver

fineprint for anal nit pickers: my claim is that there is evidence documented by the media that indicate an increase in gun related violence in vancouver

He boarded the train cause he has things to do, people to see. Not going to let a couple shots get in the way

Was probably afraid of staying at the area that he was getting shot at (where the shooter was still at)... and maybe he had to get on the train at the last moment to get away

Please provide a direct link, because the top 4 links are out dates, spanning 2006-2008.

the fact that they're 3-6 years old doesn't discredit the long-term trend we're heading in. your sample of the first 4 links within said time-span doesn't dictate 2009 being the worst year in gun violence, yet you don't have to search google to know this (don't ask me for reference links cause you were out of town)

in laymens perspective, there's an increasing (per capita) trend in gun violence in vancouver over the long term. you can try and spin this around as much as you want and say "last month we had only 1 shooting, yet in february 2010 we had 0 shootings, so the trend must be declining" but if you stretch this over a graph you'd see the thing rising like a stock you wished you invested in. oh and you'd see a dip around february 2010, some significant event must've happened during that time.

Actually, if you read the links you posted, despite the articles dated "2008" they use 2006 data. I would believe that is rather inconclusive as to what direction we're headed in considering these findings are going on 5 years old. Whether or not gun violence is indeed on the increase remains to be seen. Just because the 2006 data suggests something does not mean that will actually occur.

New York crime scene, for example. Late 80's to early 90's experts were predicting the metaphorical "end of the world" for NY. And what do you know, crime dropped hard and fast.

Get my point?

Direct link plz. It's your argument, you do the hw.

Edit: Also, if you're writing academic papers (depending on subject), trends and findings edging on 5 years old are boarding usability. But I'm sure you knew that.
