| Prime!
Sold all my 2.8L's the past week and switched to all primes.... I thought I'd never do it but DAYAAAMMM I don't think i'll ever go back to zooms! The sharpness is just INSANE. It's 1 thing when you see the comparison on some black and white lines, it's another when you see the difference on human skin!
picked up a 35 1.4L II (crazy sharp!), 50 1.4, 85 1.8 this week. Next up is a 24 1.4L II and still deciding if i really need a 85 1.2L. I'm not too fond of the 50 1.2L though.
anyone else shooting all primes? I think the versatility tradeoff is well worth the quality.

There's a 35L MKII?!?!
I got rid of my 24-70mm AFS in favor or 35G+85mm Sigma combo. IMO, after a while of using primes, you get used to move yourself around to get the composition you want. Making zooms useless.
And one reason I decided to go all prime is that, you can always change composition by moving, but the ability to go from F2.8-->F1.4 when I need it is priceless.

I'm moving in that direction too. Getting a Sigma 85 1.8 in May
Probably sell off my 17-40L and 70-200L soon.

Hehe: ya, custom made one of a kind typo, I was thinking if the 24.
I had the 50 1.8 but hated the toy feel and super loud motor. I even find the 1.4 loud and poor quality. I was considering the sigma 50 1.4 too but the canon is far superior in sharpness at F5.6 + which is what I use 90% of the time Posted via RS Mobile

It just that the L is crazy expensive.
What sucks is that I have cropped sensor so I have been looking for a decent 35 prime. Any suggestions?

I only have one prime and its not quite as fast as your F1.4's, but it is quite sharp! The Canon 500mm F4L IS.

I traded my 24-70 as a straight trade. But i think they're going for around $1200-1300 used.

I've been debating on getting a 24-70 2.8, but can't justify dropping $1800 on it.
Going to get an 85 1.8, since that's always been a lens on my list for awhile as well.

here's a great site to compare lenses. If you think the differences are significant on some lines, wait till you actually compare the photos you take http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...mp=0&APIComp=0

Yeah, I've been shooting more primes during weddings. My weapons of choice are the 24mm TS-E, 35L, 50L, 85L, 135L & a Nikon 85mm PC-E Micro Nikkor with an adapter. The only zoom I use is the 70-200mm f2.8. The 135L has problems focusing in moderately low contrast situations even when paired to a 1DmkIV which was surprising. I'm generally not happy with the 85L, especially after using the new Nikon 85mm f1.4G, but most people won't notice how crappy it actually is. The 35L is nice it's what I use the most during the "getting ready" shots, but the new Nikon 35mm f1.4G has much smoother bokeh. The 50L has focus breathing issues which can be bothersome when shooting video. The 24L & 24mm TS-E lenses are amazing no criticism here, although I haven't tested the new Nikon 24mm f1.4G yet.

Haha I just got the sigma 50 1.4 and damn it's all I shoot with these days, haven't touched my 10-20 or 17-70 in a long time.
Does this mean I should save my money and not bother going full frame? |
