I guess the original meaning of faggot/fagot is lost much like the original meaning of the word 'gay' :lol

straight from dictionary.com

faggot
–noun
1. a bundle of sticks, twigs, or branches bound together and used as fuel, a fascine, a torch, etc.
2. a bundle; bunch.
3. a bundle of pieces of iron or steel to be welded, hammered, or rolled together at high temperature.
4. bouquet garni.

so just because gay, fag, retard may have different meaning, it's perfectly acceptable to use them?

may be i should go ahead and can call a vietnamnese or korean person a gook because gook was originally meant for Filipinos

Sorry man, maybe back in elementary school.

You're taking this way out of proportion.

Kobe did not call the gay community "faggots". He called the ref a "faggot".

BTW, make sure you take "bitch" and "whore" out of your vocabulary. I know bitch can mean a female dog... but we gotta make sure we're not offending anyone, okay?

Are you dense? Are you retarded or something?

No, it's not ok to use them. That's why Kobe and the Lakers publicly apologized and even take the extra step to work with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).

But then, nobody make a BIG deal outta it. The point is it happened in a moment of emotion--which happens plenty of time if you ever take one step on the court to play COMPETITIVE sport. It's not ok how he said it but people understood why he said it. Pro players barked worse shits than that. Kobe just happened to got caught on national TV. Shits happen. Apologize accepted. Move on. Stop acting like a saint, hypocrit.

IMO, the gay community should stop taking "faggot" as a serious insult, when not directed towards them. People use it ALL the time now regardless of the person's sexual orientation. They should stop associating themselves with it. I seriously doubt Kobe was insinuating on the ref's sexual preference.

I am not against gays in any way, but they are doing themselves a disservice by exploding things out of proportion.

Just like the word nigga?

thanks for proving my point, but i guess that was in context this time. I guess I am just biased because I have worked with very diverse populations from a somewhat professional standpoint.

I understand these terms get thrown around on the court, I was making general statements how they are used for fun or in frustration not only from Kobe but just generally coming from adults. If you want to justify it because the same word has different meaning, more power to you when you start parenting.
