I haven't used my PS3 in a while and the only time I pop in a game and wanted to play I get this PSN is currently unavailable, talk about bad timing, oh well, I can see why people are annoyed with Sony ... I do like how the PS3 is more of a complete media system but by the sounds of it, Sony is tightening the functionality of the system and that isn't very good

Terrorism is coercion by intimidation. It doesn't HAVE to be political or religious. The word wasn't invented on 9/11, there were terrorists before, and terrorists after. It may not be political, but it's still terrorism.

Sony doesn't owe anyone anything. If you don't like that you can't hack or pirate on your PS3, sell it and play something else. That's all there is to it, really.

Anyone who thinks that they should be allowed to pirate games, movies, music, basicly anything should be allowed to do so freely, just so long as they go to work 40 hours a week and receive no compensation for it. I fully agree if you dont like what sony has done play something else. If nothing else tickles your fancy get smart and invent something then.

And yes I understand that the word terrorism wasnt invented on 9/11, hence why I said "we all became very familiar with it on in " that date. I was fairly young and my world didnt exactly include anything but hockey and lego at that point in my life.

Pirating games (or anything else) may be considered theft, piracy, fraud, or any number of other things... but it's NOT terrorism by any stretch. Hacking of this sort may be considered fraud or vandalism, but it likewise is NOT terrorism by any *normal* definition of the term (despite attempts by some to expand it to cover everything down to the truly innocuous).

Remember, the root of the word is TERROR. There is no TERROR involved here, intended or not.

As for Sony, there is a strong argument that THEIR actions are anything from simply idiotic, to outright fraud. Some people bought their product based on claims of certain functionality. That functionality was later taken away arbitrarily, in some cases without warning - it would be like Nissan sending guys around to your house in the night to rip the engine out of your GT-R and replace it with a lawnmower engine. Sure, you now have the option to not drive that car anymore... or sell it and buy a Mustang... but that's not really the point, is it?

I never used the linux part of the ps3 but many of my friends did, and i agree that it is bull that they took a part of the system away, software that we BOUGHT with the system.

When did I say they weren't hacked you idiot? I said anonymous has nothing to do with this. Since you're so incapable of finding information for yourself, the reason they shut down PSN was because people on an unnamed forum were able to use the PS3 CFW to get into "dev tools" and basically add unlimited funds to their PSN accounts.

ive been sitting here reading this thread the last couple days and thought this was all silly.
today was the first time ive tried using my ps3 since this whole thing went down...
trying to watch a movie via USB and that stupid cinavia turns the audio off and says the content being played is protected.

i agree with jd13, half the reason i bought my ps3 was for media playback capabilities... now that this garbage has been implemented i think im gonna have to get my xbox fixed for the 3rd time... im glad sony got hacked, if i cant somehow bypass this cinavia garbage they have lost a customer.

i think the OtherOS feature removal pissed off the more "techy" community off more than anything.

Stupid idea on Sony's behalf.
They could have just reinforced the barrier between the OtherOS and the regular system. If they did that I'd still be a happy camper playing Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country on my TV

If hackers hadn't exploited OtherOS to pirate games, it would still be there right now.

The thing these companies never seem to learn is that the hackers will ALWAYS find a way around their measures - all they gain with this BS is making life more difficult for the other 98% of their legitimate, everyday-joe customers.
