Wow, this one sucks. A co-worker purchased a unit in the buildingand is not a happy camper today. Apparently any insurance payout won't happen in the next two months, and she won't get her deposit back until December. Unless of course the developer plays nice and returns the deposit. |
ha good luck, they won't return anything until they absolutely have to, and even then they won't pay out until insurance pays them as for all you ididots saying this fire was because it's a 6 storey building vs the previsous max 5 storey, it wouldn't have made any friggen difference if a wood building is gonna burn during construction, it's gonna buy, it will just take them longer to put it out obviously the sprinkler system wasn't installed and opterational yet, looks like they were just near the finishing stages of framing doubt it was a heater as they wouldn't have needed one yet i call arson |
They're planning on rebuilding: News1130 Staff May 04, 2011 12:56:54 PM RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - The developer of a Richmond wood-frame development which went up in flames last night says they will rebuild. The rubble at Cambie and Garden City Roads was still smoking this morning. Dana Westermark with Oris Development says he doesn't know how long it will take to rebuild the complex at Cambie and Garden City Road. "There were 33 seniors units, 48 market-affordable units... they were rentals, and 107 market units." Ted Townsend with the City of Richmond says it wasn't just housing that was lost. "In addition to a significant amount of social housing that was included in this project, there was also a very large child care facility. The City has established a district energy utility in that neighbourhood." Westermark says the Richmond Fire Department did have concerns about six-storey wood-frame buildings in general but they spent a lot of time making sure their complex was as safe. Crews are expected to be there for the next several hours |
Wow, I used to live right next to where the fire was. |

There was debris iin our parking lot this morning at Westminister and No 6. Crazy that it flew so far. |
So what was the cause?? Still investigating? I haven't heard anything about the cause being reported yet. |

^^^meh not funny, nice try tho |
