Conservatives wanted to pass law for "Internet surveillance"
This means that: Internet providers MUST disclose a users full information to police. Before it was "voluntary" for providers to produce this information.
Second: Providers must re-work their systems for REAL-TIME surveillance. And because of this, means the providers will have to upgrade their systems, and will need more money to do this, meaning we "the public" front the fucking bill.
Third: Police can get a "preservation order" that tells the provider to "hold" the users information (specific communications or transmission data) for 90 days.
ie. The gov't is going to have the ability to watch EVERYTHING you do on the Internet.. So if your watching some weird kinky pron.. the gov't will know.
IMHO I think this is bullshit, just another way the gov't and police are taking away all those "Rights & Freedoms" us Canadians are "supposed" to have.
I'm all for "surveillance" for people and cases under investigation (the guy who crashed his BMW into a light post is a good example LOLOLOL) but this is just excessive. They might as well just install cameras in our bathrooms if this law ever gets put into effect.
More over the government and police will have a full history of all the porn you've ever looked at. And if some chick ever accuses you of assulting her, they can dig into it and use that visit to kink.com as evidence towards your sadistic tendancies and to sway the jury think of you as a depraved woman hater.
Go internet go.
Who said when you sell your freedom for security you lose both?

But keep in mind, if you use a proxy in a third world or conflict country you may very well get tracked as a security concern.

This is so stupid, the internet shouldn't even be touched by gov't in the first place. Next thing you know they'll create an ICBC type of ISP and we'll all be fucked.
Edit: Has this bill even had any hint of being around since they got their majority?

^ That's funny. When certain government parties were talking about banning usage based billing then people on RS were rejoicing, many even saying they'd vote for said party on this issue alone.
Pirate Party is the biggest pile of shitheads around. Clearly not one of them has ever been involved in the creation of something unique. They want to ban patents on software, for example. Absolutely ridiculous idea.
Their proposed changes to copyright law are also asinine. Seriously, only commercial copying would be illegal?
Their name is fitting, since only some freeloading thief would consider their policies to be fair and just.

copyrights, trademarks, patents, hinder innovation imo; whether they are fair or not is another matter
The conservative government has vowed to push this bill through in the first 100 days of their majority government. There has been no or little discussion or opposition to this bill.
Your freedom is being taken away from you, for what reason?
double teamed once again... (that's what she said)
Are you implying that oversea proxy's don't slow your internet connection? Otherwise, I don't know where you're coming from with that idiotic response.

Yes, this policy may now only be for legitimate criminal investigations; however, allowing a bill like this to pass, may open doors for similar laws in the future to further monitor and restrict our access on the Internet - then what?
There is already similar talks in the US to further censor the internet, and to allow the US federal government to switch off the Internet, upon command.
You can't honestly tell me that you don't see anything wrong with that.
