I'm glad I didn't pick up the MBA yet! I can't wait until other PC makers starts building a similar form factor laptop!

My only wish is that a 256gb SSD is more affordable :(

as a current Asus Laptop user i have to say....
one of the better laptops ive used...
and yes it seems the only downfall for asus is over heating...

judging form the size and CPU power.. i would go out a limb and say it will over heat =.=

the only thing they'e doing right is their marketing

bloodmack 05-30-2011 04:22 PM

Apple is what most business's wish they were, a company who can take all the money they can and some how take more.

MAC's are horrid computers. I think the iPod/iPhone line up is the ONLY thing good to come out of apple other than low key software they have.

Gilgamesh 05-30-2011 04:35 PM

Apple is about branding-that's it.

Ronin 05-30-2011 04:37 PM

Laptops are like cars. You can only have two of fast, cheap and well-built (or good looking depending on who you talk to). Macbook Pros have always had fast hardware and they feel solid.

On the other hand, PC laptops usually have fast hardware on the high end and cost less but they've always been either massive bricks or flimsy. I had a thin Sony prior to buying a MBP and it never felt as solid. The plastic creaked, the keyboard flexed. Plus I spent years working retail, selling $600 laptops to people that didn't know any better.

Admittedly, PC laptops have gotten a lot better in terms of build quality lately, especially those high end HPs. Asus has made some decent things in recent memory. I had one of those super portable 10" ones...not the netbooks.

Yes, that's the reason why just about every graphics professional prefers a mac.

I use both on a regular basis. They're not 'horrid' computers, they can do just about anything a PC can.

Unless you're an engineer that frequently requires the use of proprietary software, Mac fits the bill for just about anyone else.

TheKingdom2000 05-30-2011 06:44 PM

I use both.
Macbook for school and desktop for home.

imo. having a desktop PC is a MUST. I can't stand using a Mac as a desktop for some reason? I need the PC as i'm so used to it.

But, I LOVE my macbook for school. It just feels and works great. Best laptop i've ever owned. And I don't need to worry about viruses. So I always stream/download videos/movies/porn on my macbook without worrying about my computer getting slow.

I think you can have the best of both worlds. Just don't count the mac out just yet.

i cant stand ultra thin devices though, be it computers or phones

not only for the fact that i feel like i'll snap em in two but also for the reason of i can't hold onto them; they seem to slide out of my fingers with ease

the TX series from Sony?

Fast hardware? Until a few months ago, the 13" MBP was still using a Core 2 Duo and they were charging $1249 for it.

Finally a PC maker that has some put some thought in the style of one their machines.

Shouldn't this be in the Computer Forum?

Pretty much exactly the same for me. I use a PC desktop but a Mac laptop.

I'm so glad that this is coming out, it's about time somebody just tells Apple to stfu with their shit assed overpriced products

And some things Apple does vastly better, particularly their laptops.. which is why they're being copied.

PCs need the extra horsepower because Windows is a dog. Until you use OSX/*nix day to day, you don't realize how much of a dog it is. Woof.

Meowjin 05-31-2011 04:14 AM

where does this misconception come from that an apple laptop is better for photoediting than a pc? Get your head out of your ass.

Dumb comments of the year award for that one.

The reason for that is because it's a trend that alot of entry level photographers took., and has no merit what so ever.

Sky_2000 05-31-2011 04:33 AM

When Apple used PPC architecture, it could be argued that it allowed Macs to perform graphical tasks more efficiently and quickly than the generic x86 architecture.

With Apple using x86/64 just like any other PC, that argument is over.

Death2Theft 05-31-2011 05:44 AM

If a ten inch size doesnt' classify it as a netbook what the hell does?

the thing that bugs me the most are people that buy apple just for the sake of having an apple and not for what the computer can actually do

Final Cut Pro. Also, find me a PC equivalent that's as pleasant and enjoyable to use as a 27" iMac for photo-editing. The high quality display definitely helps. That being said, I edit all my photos on my PC.

Netbooks use cheap, slow hardware so that high school girls can browse Facebook.

A 10" notebook with real hardware in it like this Asus? That's not a netbook.

Netbooks are a class of laptop computers based on price, hardware and overall (lack of) capability...not because of their size, even though that's a factor.
