:fuckyea:

You gonna do any price matches?

SaviorSelf_666 06-12-2011 04:54 PM

I searched around got maybe a total of $110 in price matches, rebates and one open box item. Surprisingly usually Newegg.ca has cheaper items, but this time around NCIX has been really good with their prices. All in all got everything for $1700 shipped. HST sucks dick.

Datsun 06-12-2011 05:03 PM

Nice. post the rig up when its all built!

Speaking of that... picked up the mobo today. And the ASUS 560 Ti DirectCUII for $223 minus $20 rebate. :fuckyea: I'm thinking SLI 560Ti now.

SaviorSelf_666 06-13-2011 07:27 PM

So everything shipped EXCEPT the freaking motherboard:facepalm:

Datsun 06-13-2011 07:49 PM

FFFFF

Were they out of stock? What happened to it?

SaviorSelf_666 06-13-2011 08:19 PM

Apparenty its a special order item so its about a 2-3 buisness day wait. I hate when they don't mention that!

Sucks that its the mobo too, kinda holds be back when i get everything lol.

Datsun 06-13-2011 08:45 PM

Damn that sucks. But the smell of newly opened hardware should keep you sane during the wait, haha

BestDirect.ca: http://bestdirect.ca/products/?sku=2...=asus%20direct

Go to Memory Express and then price beat with their 5% price beat offer. Add $20 rebate for extra win.

$234.79 x 0.95 = 223.05 + tax then minus $20 = $229.81

Ok so the Mobo shipped today, so I'll hopefully get it tomorrow.

I ordered 2 OCZ Agility 3's one for the OS and one for the 2TB HD I bought since the Z68 incorporates the new intel SRT tech. If it isn't a noticeable speed diffrence then I'll run the ssd's in raid. I can't believe how quick the 2TB hd's are w/ sata3.
Also ordered a active display port dongle since I guess in order to run three monitors, 2 run directly off the card (dvi) while the third has to have a active mini display port to dvi dongle.

So all in all should have everything all together on friday :O

Shouldnt need an active display port cz i spot that you have an XFX 6870 ? But either way, the Radeon cards have Eyefinity so you can run 3 monitors out the box (unlike Nvidia where you need SLI to run 3 monitors)

SaviorSelf_666 06-15-2011 01:11 PM

^ Yeah thats what I thought too, but you need to still have the right dongle to get it to work.

2 can be on DVI while third needs a active mini display-port cable to _ _ _ _ (whatever you want DVI, HDMI, or DP)

ddr 06-15-2011 01:24 PM

for the ssd cache, did you really need that big of an ssd? or can you partition just a portion of it for caching the storage drives? or was the decision solely made as a fallback in case you wanted it to run in RAID?

i was looking at some sata3 ssd's for a z68 board and some smaller capacity ones are only $130 (64gb)...

SaviorSelf_666 06-15-2011 01:43 PM

Maximum SSD size you can use for cache is 64GB. I think you can partition it and use whatever size you want tho. I got the two ssds for $100 each, and for the new Agility 3's thats a pretty good deal. So I'll try one out for the cache and one for the OS. From all the reading i've done, when you use the SRT tech you gain a 30-40% increase in speed. A 2TB drive that quick will make day to day activities noticeable.

The SSD's I bought are 60GB.

ddr 06-15-2011 01:46 PM

oh ok... i thought you bought 2x120gb ones. didn't look careful enough to see the agility 3's come in 64gb. makes sense. good luck on the sick build!

is the cache only for one storage drive? or all drives? (i.e. 5x2TB)

SaviorSelf_666 06-15-2011 01:53 PM

No, it's paired to a single drive. Basically its like its in raid, except the paired drive is just to boost it. If you have a SSD that's over 64GB when you use it as a booster, you can use the remaining space like normal through windows. (ie: 128GB SSD - 64GB cache = 64GB usuable still)

I see for mine (6950) I tried with 2 dvi + 1 hdmi as I have 4 hdmi ports at the back lol
