+1. I'm still in shock that May Ray is still playing for the Canucks.

Sorry but you're wrong. Like I said, everyone hating on this trade will be glad we have Kassian on the ice next time someone is dummying one of our star players and the ref doesn't make the call.

Hodgson and Kassian are two totally different styles of players. Comparing their numbers is irrelevant.

Not comparing their numbers. Just don't think it's a trade for us right now losing depth scoring for big body that might produce now or in the future.

Yes, that's why depth scoring and in other positions.

Same. I guess Mason Raymond and some picks couldn't get what the Canucks wanted.

I personally don't think his value is enough right now to trade him. He's quick and does make decent plays so right now with his rough season I can understand why he was never moved since he didn't bring the value the Canucks wanted.

One of my friends out here (Toronto) is friends with coho and know's his family.
He said Coho wanted a trade. He wanted to be closer to home and i'm not sure if coho said this or his family, but he deserved more ice time.
Which he will get now that he is in Buffalo. And since he'll be so close to home is family is SUPER excited to see him go there.

I was just wondering why Gillis said Cody was off the table? I'm sure we would have gotten some really good offers for him. I mean Cody had a lot of pull and could have landed something pretty decent.

Seems like I'm in the minority regarding this trade.... I'm not so much shocked about it, as I am disappointed that Raymond didn't get moved...

I don't mind this deal, cuz I'm gonna trust MG... I understand that Hodgson was establishing himself here and he was pretty clutch for us but like a few said, he's just gonna be stuck behind Hank and Kesler in terms of depth. Now he gets to go to a team and play with Vanek/Roy as a top 6 forward and become the skilled player we all thought he would be when we drafted him. If Kassian pans out and becomes the great pwf he's supposed to be, he could even play with the sedins and no one would take cheap shots at them anymore. I know Kassian isn't exactly NHL ready right now, but most of us don't know much about him/never seen him play. MG knew it was a gamble giving up someone like Coho.... I guess I'm the few who will give the new guys the benefit of the doubt to reach their full potential here...

I wasn't here on RS when it happened, so I don't know what the reaction here was but alot of people I know were choked when we took Coho over Kyle Beach.... and we all gave Coho a chance to shine and prove his worth...

Best case scenario Kassian turns out to be a Bertuzzi/Lucic kind of player, worse case scenario he turns out to be another Steve Bernier :heckno:
*fingers crossed*

Gragnani is also somewhat of an upgrade over Sulzer imo.... maybe with the proper guidance he'll overcome the defensive liabilities that 7even mentioned... which means he could make Ballard more expendable.

Just my last 2 cents..... remember, when we got Lappy, he was known to take dumb penalties and be a hothead on the ice... and lots of us weren't sure if he would fit within our team... but he adopted the AV system and toned it down so I'm hoping for the same with Kassian as well.

All that being said... still shocked/disappointed that Raymond wasn't moved

stuff99 02-27-2012 01:16 PM

also ellington a good D prospect is gone for pahlsson along with two draft picks

murd0c 02-27-2012 01:17 PM

Who thought the 1st place Canucks would make the biggest move of the day. Since a couple moves. Gillis is here to win and plan for our future and thats what he did today.

best thing i've heard all day

Ronin 02-27-2012 01:23 PM

I trust MG but I don't think this trade should've happened. At least not today.

Kassian looks to be a year from NHL readiness while CoHo is playing well now. This move doesn't appear to help the Canucks right now, which has me asking why it couldn't wait til July.

Bonka 02-27-2012 01:25 PM

MG on Team1040 right now.

I guess Raymond's hot 2g in last 2gms streak saved him..

murd0c 02-27-2012 01:26 PM

at least he's there if we need him now. With the issues he's had with his temper the nucks aer a perfect fit for him as well. I honestly think this is a great move by Gillis and it's a type of player we have needed for years.

In hind site we didn't even give up much for him.

bballguy 02-27-2012 01:26 PM

I don't get how Gragnani is a liability when he's +10 on a team that is -26 in goal differential...Does someone care to explain to me?

Roach 02-27-2012 01:28 PM

Haven't seen much talk about it, however, I'm glad Corey Schneider was not traded away.

This. Exactly what I was thinking

Chances are, Kassian Isn't ready for play offs. We should hv kept coho who's ready now and trade him after play offs

mg just said on team1040 that kassian has been on his radar for a while now but didn't have the chance to grab him.

jeedee 02-27-2012 01:41 PM

The point of Hodgson was he was the future for after Henrik regressing.

Gillis is gearing up for this years run, and Kassian is brought in for this years run specifically. He's basically a Lucic-Lite who will stand up for his team mates, a power forward and can hit.

He was basically the other option if Canucks couldn't land Ott.
