Who says you HAVE to have 3rd line caliber players on your "3rd line"? Stack the team... the cup will be where it belongs next year. | For one thing, we will NEVER be able to afford Weber unless we trade Ballard and not re-sign Juice and Hoff. Guaranteed Weber makes at least $6.5m for his next contract. Possibly more. I'm going to guess $10m front end first year like Lu's contract. He is the best all around defenseman in the league. AND HIS BEARD IS MAGNIFICENT
Also, yes, you can load up but you have to consider the cap. Paying 1st line money for a 3rd liner is stupid. The 3rd line doesn't play as many minutes. You're just wasting money. It's like "Hey, let's sign Sidney Crosby so he'll play on the 3rd line, guys!" What the Canucks have done is the correct approach...look for high-end, roleplaying guys like Manny Malhotra...an "elite" 3rd liner in that he's better than most of the 3rd liners in the league except guys that are 1st liner but have to play less minutes because someone extra awesome is ahead of them (like Jordan Staal).
Or else hey...let's get a team that looks like this, gais!
Sedin-Sedin-Perry
Burrows-Kesler-St. Louis
Toews-Malhotra-Nash
Clutterbuck-Lapierre-Dustin Brown
Weber Keith
Edler Ehrhoff
Bieksa Hamhuis
Luongo
Lundqvist
Rinne
LOOOOOOL
CAP HIT IS ONLY $127 million or something, gais! We'll have to sign Rinne to a two-way as well so we can have him play on the Moose most of the year.

i was thinking if we trade ballard, dont resign salo
we just miiiiiight squeeze somethign to sign weber
but yea getting weber would mean a big overhaul to our roster
once to get his rights
second to fit him under cap
so most likely, it wont happen - if gillis does make it happen all while making us competitive ... please someone give him the key to the city

By the way, could you imagine how fucking awful it would be to play against a fourth line of Clutterbuck, Lappy and Dustin Brown? Goddamn shit disturbers but Clutterbuck had 35 points and Brown had 57. Combine that shit with Lappy's troll face powers...BOOOOM MOST ANNOYING LINE EVER.
Getting Weber will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER happen. Firstly because Nashville would be fucking insane to not resign the best player to ever play for their organization. Secondly, Gillis isn't stupid. To sign Weber, we would need to offer him $7m at least as an offer sheet NSH can't match and THEN we would have to give up FOUR first round picks for him.
It will never happen. It's as likely as us trading for Crosby. We can joke about it but those of you thinking it's even a possibility...I want whatever you're fucking high on.

Maybe. Ruutu's best moment was when Phaneuf took a fall backwards onto his ass.
But I think I enjoy Lappy on our team more than any other troll face we've ever had.

Bob McKenzie just twittered this. Quote: |

NSH elects salary arb on Weber and NJD on Parise

		 | Quote: |

Bottom line on Weber/Parise: teams electing salary arb prohibits other teams from putting in offer sheet on the RFAs.

		 | To get either players, we have to wait till after arbitration and if the team doesn't take that offer to sign them, the player becomes an UFA. JP Dumont was like that before he was a predator.

So even less chance that Weber could be a Canuck.
Our roster is fine. A little more grit maybe and an upgrade on MayRay for the 2nd line.
