i'm taking econ 335 with douglas this term and i think it could be the first time we get to choose between a paper or volunteer work because as you said before, it was only for 317 which did the volunteer thing. So how does the sign-up work? do ppl sign up on the 1st day of class or wat? i'm asking cause i jus transfered in today and am worrying if all the good spots have already been taken :okay:

Most of my upper level ECON electives are with Douglas Catherine. It all depends on if you're willing to write papers and essays or not. I took 334, 336 and 317 with her. 334 and 336 are kind of like history lessons and for exam type questions if you know your econ you will do fine (ie. how do certain things affect GDP, inflation, etc).

Personally on a final exam I'd rather straight BS and stretch some points for 1-2 questions then go through hell. Her midterms are ALWAYS the same, take home and short answer. She is a very boring prof though so I showed up to a total of about 4 lectures in each of her classes (1 in which I went to pick up the midterm and the other was to hand it in).

But ECON 317 you have a choice of either doing a term paper (in which only 3 people did in my class) or doing some volunteer work and I literally didn't do a single thing for that and still got a pretty good grade. There will always be a keener in your group that will carry you.

LOL how do u opt out of the u-pass? most course are either mon, wed& friday or tues & thurs. I think you can only opt out of the u-pass if u only have to come to ubc once a week? in your case, its prob 2-3 times a week. So how do u opt out?

btw i heard Asian studies 360b is couse that counts for literature credits and all they do is read manga and comment on them. The prof is James Welker. Anyone taken him before? Heard that course was easy.

Its easy but only offered every other year and it fills up FAST.
I took ASIA430 for an elective and it turned out to be a really interesting course. Its japanese-korean relations. I always looked forward to attending that class.

I dont know how strict your departments are, but you should check with your advisors if you can use certain electives. I know Materials Eng cant take VISA110. Lol

Ten years ago at UBC I took Philosophy 120 Basic Logic with Dr Burkholder. I got 91% and thought it was epic, then realized all my friends got 90+% as well.

Oh I'm applying for UBC and SFU now too ^_^ average is 98...hehe but probably gonna drop to 94/95. Is the supplemental that important? This is because I really really want to get into Sauders =/

kcl38 01-17-2012 03:26 PM

^Supplemental is that important. A lot of people are applying with super high averages.

Anyways summer course lists are up. Anyone have experience with FNH 200? Its a required class for me and it doesn't seem that overwhelming in the summer (3x a week for 2 and a half hours for 6 weeks)
