Chill electives for ubc
 

Can someone recommend me some chill first year electives for ubc? as in minimal studying for tests? i am not the science or math guy so looking for something in the arts section... thanks.

maybe someone in 2nd year can chime in...because easy classes can change easily into hard ones if it's diff profs etc

earth and ocean sciences online are all pretty easy

yeah heard about that....but why online?

i heard in class was brutal, i personally took online and found it really easy.. Got a B+ without much effort at all.

The quiz answers can all be found in your notes with a simple ctrl + F.

EOSC 118 online

if only EOSC 118 had inclass sessions life would be alot easier for me

i heard IHHS 200 is easy

Since were on the topic of online courses as well, what are the pros and cons of them? Things to think about? Things to watch out for?

Math101. Math for beginners, hence the 101 designation.

anyone do biol 155 human biology before? what is the level of difficulty? on a scale of 1-10 and why...

^ if that's the lecture portion of biol 153 then it's not considered an easy course. If you get on your hands on old exams then you can do well but otherwise it's a lot of work.

ECON 101, 102
After you have taken these 2, and you're not in Arts, most of your upper credits for electives will be from ECON and it will be a breeze. All you need to do is take the 300 level courses that are completely useless, I took 317, 371, 334, 336,
ASTR 101, 102
Most of the first year EOSC courses
POLI 100
ENGL 301 (easy and VERY useful, my resume and cover letters were 100x better after this course)
PHIL 120 (this one is a must, insanely easy so make sure you take it before you are fourth year as there is a restriction)

and yes I have been here for a long time... I know the good stuff ;)

Took Econ 317 Poverty and Inequality as an elective as well. Super easy, didn't need to do anything and still ended up with an 88.

FNH 200 is pretty chill

which prof did u take econ 317 with? Was it with Douglas Catherine? i've been getting mixed reviews on her from ratemyprofessor.

Most of my upper level ECON electives are with Douglas Catherine. It all depends on if you're willing to write papers and essays or not. I took 334, 336 and 317 with her. 334 and 336 are kind of like history lessons and for exam type questions if you know your econ you will do fine (ie. how do certain things affect GDP, inflation, etc).

Personally on a final exam I'd rather straight BS and stretch some points for 1-2 questions then go through hell. Her midterms are ALWAYS the same, take home and short answer. She is a very boring prof though so I showed up to a total of about 4 lectures in each of her classes (1 in which I went to pick up the midterm and the other was to hand it in).

But ECON 317 you have a choice of either doing a term paper (in which only 3 people did in my class) or doing some volunteer work and I literally didn't do a single thing for that and still got a pretty good grade. There will always be a keener in your group that will carry you.

Thanks for the reply joey, does exams by catherine require any math calculations? Cause I'm not that strong at math since a lot of econ courses require calculus and derivatives. Thanks again!

Nope, I don't think she teaches any econ courses like that, but to be safe just take the ones I did. Always short answer or essay type questions. The one about Europe and the Industrial Revolution was insanely easy to BS because one of the final essay questions was "how did the Industrial Revolution affect the economy in Europe?" or something like that. And the whole course was about the IR so you would have tons of points to just crap out.
