Witnessed a HORRIFIC car animal accident

Driving east on westminster hwy in Richmond, by Minoru blvd.
There were cars and busses driving slow for some reason, some stopped. I stopped.

Passenger told me to look at a duck family (big mother duck and like 10 baby ducks crossing the street (middle of westminster highway) in traffic.

Then suddenly a big truck runs over 5 baby ducks and died instantly, a few were injured, and 2 were ok. The mother duck was ok but was traumatized when she went back to look for the babies.

Cars stopped this time but that was a horrible and sad sight.

I wanted to run out of my car to direct/stop traffic but it was too late.

seen it happen on hwy 17, dont expect a truck to do a full stop for small animals, i dont think it can anyways, just sayin

MindBomber 07-08-2011 04:18 PM

A truck can't stop as fast as a car, but a good truck driver would have been looking far enough ahead to see other cars had stopped and prepared to do the same.

Good truck drivers are a very small minority.

Damn :(
RIP little ducklings

MrGoodbar 07-08-2011 04:43 PM

I saw an animal that looked like a flattened soda can in the middle of the road on marine way. It was still alive and its paw was up as if waving for people to stop. I was the passenger and all I could think about was "shit I wish i could put it out of its misery" fucking sad shit when i see animals like this :(

ya my dads avoided a deer or 2 before, but small ducks.. if your going 60 - 70 mph with a full load its time = money in the trucking industry. Faster you deliever the more you get paid cause you can do more loads in 1 month.

XplicitLuder 07-08-2011 05:13 PM

just looking at that vid^ makes me realize how much mama duck cares bout the ducklings..and then thinking of the accident..how distraught she musta been :(

Poor mama duck :(

:okay:

scottsman 07-08-2011 05:22 PM

Was it necessary to make horrific in all caps?

Spectre_Cdn 07-08-2011 05:27 PM

I hope the SPCA can take care of the mother and the remaining five. :(

Amuse 07-08-2011 05:50 PM

Hate to break it to you.. but this kind of stuff happens all the time.

cliffhanger33 07-08-2011 06:27 PM

The amount of time it would take to stop for ducks is irrelevant for an otherwise productive driver, it's the equivalent of hitting one extra red light.

No fucking kidding. Do people not realize what goes on in the world?

The_AK 07-08-2011 09:54 PM

why are we so sympathetic towards ducks?

just because they are animals doesnt mean we shouldn't be sympathetic. To us they may be food, but think in the mother duck's perspective, to see your babies die in front of you and don't know what to do at all to save them.

SeedBNR 07-08-2011 10:17 PM

I would never expect a family of ducks to be in that area. Isnt that outside RC?

At my workplace, one office has a view of a rooftop with a seagull nest. I saw the 2 adult seagulls and 2 baby seagulls today. I'll try to get a pic of them on Monday to change up the mood in here.

I actually saw a duck on highway 1 yesterday.
Was driving in heavy traffic, it was on the far left HOV lane.
It looked like it was just sitting there... it was alive but both its legs got run over.
