Wow, I hope this membership crap doesn't spread to Point Roberts anytime soon... still $3 per package at The Letter Carrier, but only two week holding time now.

Any recommendations by Pacific Crossing? I usually take that route when I'm crossing the border instead of Peach Arch.

Hmmm I remember there was a CC machine but for 5 dollars for packages <50lbs, why use a CC?

Also, conversion rates would be rapeage.

yelp agrees for the CC part.

What do you guys usually tell the border when you're heading down for the "purpose of your trip?

Obviously not gonna lie.....but do you tell them you're going "shopping" ?
or "I'm just picking up a package, and will be returning in 15 minutes?"

Depends on what I'm actually doing.

I seldom ever just go to pick up a package. I normally do have some other things I want to do whether it is going to pick up some random groceries, hitting up some food places or to visit an outlet.

On the off chance I'm only going to pick up a parcel, I'll tell the border guard just that. I'm going to Hagens to pick up a parcel and coming right back.

^ I'm most likely going to hit up Bellingham, Costco or whatever.
That's why I was thinking of staying something more general like "shopping" or whatever.

But what I dont know is, how much of your verbal conversation
get input into their system, and what is shared with the Canadian border.

Canadian border: I thought you were just going to Bellingham for short shopping trip?
And you went to picked up a $2500 package???!

Just tell them you're picking up a package. Have your receipts ready to show them if they ask.

I've been using "Hagens of Blaine" for about 8 years now. They are really friendly and I've had zero issues with them. I always get my package, and they notify you with an email when it's in. I pay a yearly fee of like $12, and then $2 or so per package.

This. Nothing wrong with telling them the truth. Like bcrdukes mentioned, have the receipts handy as proof since on the rare occasion they do ask.

I think I posted this in the winter tire thread too but I've noticed they've started checking to see if people are installing tires and "smuggling" them over. Last time I was over (about 2 weeks ago), the guy stuck his head out of the booth and did a visual check on my tires (with his flashlight) to see if I had new tires on the car.

I use these guys too. They are in the strip mall beside the Cost Cutter at Pacific X-ing i.e. 2 mins out of the way if you're heading to the I5. Very convenient. For those too lazy to check out twitchy's link, it costs $10 per year and $2.50 per package.

Long lines, though, if you go during a Saturday.

Does Can-Amer Freight charge any membership or registration fee? Doesn't mention rates on website and I can't call them this weekend, would like to find a receiving company that doesn't do registration as I only rarely order anything.

There is no sharing of information between border agencies so you don't have to worry about such a thing. Americans are worried about terrorists and whatnot while Canadians have other things to worry about (most of the time they ask about weapons when coming back into Canada). Each agency is looking out for their respective country.

+1 for Hagen's
