So just found out on my English buddies FB that right now in Londond they are on day 3 of rioting. From my understanding a unarmed late 20 yr old was shot in the head which set everything off.

I'm act work so can't search much but if anyone can put up info that would be wicked.

London riots erupt after fatal police shooting - World - CBC News

saw this on the news yesterday.
it basically happened before. Story is always police seems too violent so people get pissed and destroy stuff...

I've been following this. I have friends who live all over London. One friend who lives in North London who said he found coat hangers at his door in the morning - from people who were looting the marks and sparks down the street.

The man who was shot and killed was alleged to have had a pistol on him. He was alleged to have shot AT the officers and was shot and killed. There were original rumours that he was shot and killed on the ground execution style - but obviously those were untrue.

BBC News - Tottenham police shooting: Dead man was minicab passenger

Anyways, the riots are happening ALL over the city. Apparently messages are being broadcasted on social media - and people just meet and start causing shit. Youth gangs are a big problem as well. Originally - people were just breaking stuff and lighting shops/cars/bins on fire - but now they're looting as well. Someone said a Curry's (sorta like a futureshop) was broken into, and the computers were SMASHED, not stolen - which is retarded, IMO.

Its also spread to other cities, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton I think

To quote the CBC...The melee followed a peaceful march to the station to protest against the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan, 29, a father of four who was riding in a taxi on Thursday when he apparently became involved in a gunfight with police.

Sounds like the "unarmed 20 year old" was anything but that. He got too violent, not the Police. Could never figure out how rioting and destroying property solved anything?

Do they have martial law in the UK? I don't think they do.

The cops and the firefighters should douse water on all of them. Open up the hydrants. No one likes being in wet clothes. Once they start to disperse, send in the troops.

From what I heard from a friend who lives in the UK, North London is a bad part of greater London. Mostly populated by the lower income households. Then again, his family is wealthy.

A friend of mine is studying for his PHd in psychology at London University. He has a strange sense of timing. When the Vancouver riots happened in June, he was in London. Then when he comes to Vancouver, riots happen back in the old country.

Good luck to the English cops in keeping security tight in the 2012 Olympics.

bloodmack 08-08-2011 07:08 PM

wtf? cops do their job and people riot about it instead of whining on a internet forum? WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO?

Gridlock 08-08-2011 07:11 PM

and Vancouver is off the hook!

Honestly, EVERY part of London has pretty bad areas.

North London, East London (around Mile End is horrible), South London (Brixton).

In London - the city is divided into separate boroughs, and each borough MUST have Council Homes which are basically gov't subsidized housing. Obvously, some areas are worse than others. But if you've heard of Chav's - which I'm sure can be used to describe a lot of the idiots who are causing the damage - actually stands for Council Home'd and Violent.

Fuck, I hope my friend who is on vacation in London is safe...

This was the guy that was shot, which set off the initial riot. Apparently he was carrying a starter pistol modified to fire live ammunition but now there are doubts if he actually fired on officers as reports that the initial test show the bullet that struck the officers' radio was from police issued ammunition. At this point its still not clear what happened, but the guy was known to police, had ties to gangs and was carrying a pistol.

Quote:

Fragments of a bullet modified to maximise its destructive power were last night being analysed to cast crucial light on what happened at around 6.15pm last Thursday when police marksmen surrounded the minicab carrying Mark Duggan alongside a north London reservoir and shot him dead.

As clashes broke out for the third night running in the worst rioting seen in the capital for decades, scientists were analysing the remains of ammunition found in the radio of an armed officer involved in the arrest operation in Tottenham Hale to answer the key question of whether the 29-year-old opened fire on his pursuers moments before he died.

Investigators yesterday refused to confirm reports that initial results from the tests by the National Ballistics Intelligence Service suggested that the bullet fragments were from police-issue ammunition, meaning they could not have been from a weapon fired by Mr Duggan and casting doubt on claims that he was killed in an exchange of gunfire. According to reports last night, the suspected gang member was carrying a starter pistol modified to fire live bullets.
