HP TouchPad apps/modding thread

I decided to branch the TouchPad thread into buying vs modding/apps/accessories since, as underscore said, its a bit of a pain to have to search through 27 pages to find one link on preware, or OCing.

So, if you guys don't mind, can you repost the useful OCing, modding, android port/app stuff in here instead?

HP Touchpad Setup/Tweaks/Aps Guide

So you just got your Touchpad after refreshing slickdeals for 20 hours until you finally were able to buy one and wait 3 weeks for it to come to you...

The first things you should do when you first start up your touchpad...

Visit this thread and do the shit in it :

New Touchpad? Here's your "Get Started" guide - PreCentral Forums

1. Upgrade WebOS to the most recent version. Click the arrow on your bar in the bottom right and go to "Settings -> System Updates"

2. Install Preware (which is sort of like Installous for iOS but without all the illegal apps). Guide to do this here :
How to Use Preware for Homebrew Apps, Patches, and Themes | The #1 HP webOS, TouchPad, Pre, and Veer Community | PreCentral.net

3. Overclock your touchpad if you like. Stock speed is 1.2ghz. You can overclock the touchpad to either 1.5 or 1.7ghz. This required preware and a couple other apps. Guide here :
How to: Overclock the HP TouchPad to 1.5GHz

4. Now you need to disable system logging and install some patches via preware. Guide here :
How to improve the performance of your new HP TouchPad | ZDNet

Your touchpad should now be running faster than a car with a stripped out interior

- The best website for finding cracked/illegal apps and games is :
Mobilism • View forum - WebOS

the cracked apps come in .ipk format and can be installed via the webOSquickinstall that you downloaded when you put preware onto your touchpad.

- There is a different browser that I like much more than the vanilla one. Download it here :
Download webosbuzz.com.maklesoft.browser_1.1.0_all.ipk for free on Filesonic.com

- You can install Ubuntu on your touchpad. There is a guide here but it's pretty time-consuming:
TUTORIAL: How to get Ubuntu on the TouchPad - PreCentral Forums

Another mod I found useful was the one to remove the annoying 'ripple' when you tap something.

the death of the Touchpad caused a rebirth in webOS.

Now, rumors swirling of Samsung possibly picking up webOS to use for future devices.. now that would be sweet!

webOS is still alive. It's the hardware (i.e. Pre and Touchpad) that died.

Only thing that sucks with box is no windows shell integration. And if you upload a birch of photos you can't view them except one by one, downloaded

^ not too interested in having Android on my Touchpad. Other than for the fact that "hey that's cool".

webOS is pretty good once you apply the patches. UX-wise, the design is much better.

Yeah, I'll only use Android as a last resort, but it's always good to have choices.

I finally got around to overclocking my Touchpad today. Anyone else find it performs worse overclocked than stock ?

I'm overclocked at 1.7ghz using the f15c kernel with no issues whatsoever. It's when you start overclocking it at anything over that speed that makes the touchpad unstable

It all depends on personal preference imo. I'm used to Android and know what the good apps are, and know that it's still the #2 platform.

Plus heavy Google integration is so much win.
