The X5 being a plugin the engine actually rarely comes on. I'm debating stretching that out to two years since the engine itself does maybe 1000km a year while the EV part of the drivetrain does the rest.
Brake fluid intervals from manufacturer are usually quite generous at around 4 years. At even say $200 a change it's nothing. Granted I've only ever cooked my fluid once, it was on my parents Caravan, I picked it up from the mechanic and went to pick up my gf from work and went to have dinner. The new pads they put on has a scrubbing layer which generated a lot of heat and it cooked the old fluid and the pedal went to the ground. Took pumps to get the van to stop.
Diff/tranny - 4 years. Do it together with the brake fluid. I don't buy the lifetime fill BS. Just learned that the transfer case on the ZF8 is weak, the interval is 4 years but there's no guarantee it will last that long. Our X5 just got a new transfer case under warranty. | I wonder if it's cause your X5 is a covid-era car that it requires so much warranty repairs so far. My mom's had an X5 since the first gen, and the third gen and it's been fine aside from regular maintenance.

I’m pretty sure it’s just typical German hilariousness.
Let’s make everything out of plastic !!!!
Okay…. How about that seal that prevents oil and coolant from mixing ?
Let’s use a tiny strip of rubber.
What will happen when that rubber gets hot and warps?
Lawl the lease would be over by then

Lawl the lease would be over by then | BMW N62 V8 (2002–2010): $90k new, now a smoke-belching nightmare. Valve seals fail by 80k miles, coolant pipe buried inside engine block requires engine removal for a $40 fix. Gaskets leak everything. Early iDrive is a glitchy mess. Owning one is like dating a supermodel who burns your house down then asks for more money.
Mercedes W220 S-Class (1999–2006): Six-figure car, especially the S600 V12 BiTurbo. ABC suspension costs 5k per corner to fix. Electronics fail constantly. V12 engine has twin turbos, twin ECUs, miles of vacuum lines, and spark plugs that cost more than rent. Feels like a private jet until it bankrupts you.
They weren’t cars.
They were financial BDSM,
and you were the gimp in the trunk.

The people who own those cars new don’t give a fuck, it’s nothing $ to them… the ones who have trouble are the reaching schmoes who buy a 10 year old one to feel rich and get absolutely cornholed.

I haven't heard any X5/X7 friends experiencing issues with their cars, so it might be luck of the draw.

Take this with a grain of sale, but despite not living in Vancouver, we had read about 852 Kitchen and recommended a few of our local friends to try. They've quite enjoyed their frozen items and have become regulars.

Thanks for that.
So I went him the list of the bakery/cafe recommendations. He asks if there are any popular donut places in town these days? The only ones I can think of are Mello in Chinatown, Lucky's Donuts/49th Parallel, and Lee's Donuts (?) I want to believe that Cartem's Donuts has since closed up shop, if I'm not mistaken. My friend mentioned that his daughter has been on a baking spree so she's curious about all these baked goods.
For a point of reference, he's from Ottawa and one of their highly-rated donut shops, Suzy Q Donuts, is tough to beat. I told him to keep his expectations low. |
