How to locate the shutoff valve for exterior faucets?
I'm trying to turn off the faucets outside my house to prevent frozen pipes. In my last place, I was able to find them under a sink, but at my current place, I can't see to find any valve that controls the outside faucets. My house is about 5 years old, if that makes a difference.

I'm running into a similar problem. I have a exterior faucet at the garage, looked inside my garage and the crawl space of the home and still can't find it.

You don't need to do that. When you turn off the tap outside the actual shutoff valve is inside your house. Any water will be 6 inches inside your house.

Only places with shitty building codes like Texas have the shutoff vale located outside the house.

I have an internal shut off for one of my outside faucets. Seems kind of extra then......

How can I tell if I have this type of faucet design? Is this a building code for all houses in the lower mainland now?

And for knowledge, I would still like to know where those shutoff valves would be located if not under a close by sink.

Any thing I should look for to help me locate it? There's a lot of valves in there.
Or just try them all?? lol

Mine are labelled with a tag, 'hosebib shutoff', 2 valves, one is front, one is rear.

Take a pic of your exterior faucet? I think if the handle is angled, then it is not freeze proof. But if the handle is perpendicular to the ground, then it’s freeze proof (because it turns a shaft that runs deeper inside your house to open/close the flow of water).

How old is your house?

I have two exterior faucets, both frost proof, and I also have two shut off valves - one under the main floor bathroom sink, and the other in the utility room.

I don't have a fancy siphon shutoff valve or any shutoff valves inside. I have to use the faucet caps you get from Home Depot/Lowes/Rona/Home Hardware.

Get the cold plastic ones and not the cheap styrofoam ones. I've had mine for over 6 years and no deterioration whatsoever. Foam ones last one maybe two years.

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/f...w.ds#store=605

They're always sold out, so I purchased half a dozen one year when they were readily available at Bellingham in Lowes.............I'm good for the next 50 years.

The jury is out as to its effectiveness, but it doesn't get too cold around where I live. Wind chill, but the cover is there to protect it from the wind. Make sure it is snug as a bug in a rug. If the foam insulation is worn out on the contact surface, just add a new one. You can even fill the inside with more insulation.

It survived last year's winter.

It's possible that a shut off was never put in. The anti siphon valve as shown in the picture is a good sign that it's a frost free hose bib. Even with the frost free hose bib, I've had multiple bibs fail last year and the year prior, so if you have a shut off, use it.

So I got a tumour in one of my parotid glands. Went in for an ENT appointment at the beginning of October and they wanted me to get a fine needle biopsy. Been five weeks and still no call back from BGH to the ENT's office for an appointment nor has a surgery date been scheduled.

The receptionist said on average the biopsy scheduling time is 3-6 months and the surgery date is a year.

Is this normal? I'm pretty sure the tumour is slowly getting larger.

That’s the current situation with the Canadian healthcare system collapsing. I’d suggest a couple things. Writing to your MLA to tell them how fucking horrible of a job they are doing, and going to the US and paying for medical care if it’s something you believe could be life threatening.
Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with that. It’s honestly pathetic that it’s happening in this country.

How fucked up is that ? My doggie got a tumour, we paid for fine needle biopsy and within 3 weeks of initial consultation, the tumour was removed and the results came back positive for cancer. If you want something done, you pay for it.

His operation cost us 12k at boundary bay vet.

We had the same last year with Monty. Ended up at about 40k worth of surgeries before insurance cut that number to about 10k. 2 types of cancers he beat. Splenic lymphoma and mast cell tumours on a few areas of his body. He lasted an extra 9 months when liver cancer came into play. Boundary bay was exceptional for his care. Losing him was fucking rough.

People are too busy trying to get famous making tiktok videos instead of contributing to the economy by getting a degree

In the same time, who wants to go to school for 12 years. The people that practice medical procedures are highest appreciated in my books

Yep, looks like it's pretty bad based on this article a week ago.

Quote:
Paula Gordon, a clinical professor in the University of British Columbia's department of radiology, who specializes in breast imaging, said wait times for testing to diagnose or rule out cancer were not good prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and have gotten progressively worse.

She said women in need of a needle biopsy to check for cancer cells used to be able to get one within a couple of days of an ultrasound.

"Those waits are now up to three-plus months," Gordon said.
Maybe I'll just go get the biopsy done in Taiwan or something.

People can't get into med school to begin with, there aren't enough jobs when they get out anyways, and they don't want to pay people what it takes to deal with it, until so many people leave the profession it cant function anyways. This is 100% a system failure, not a lack of interest.

I don't know about that, any job with nurse school or higher, is in massive demand

General doctors = weeks wait to get an appointment assuming you are in with the clinic
Nurses = overworked, unlimited overtime
Specialty doctor work = months to years to get procedures, unlimited overtime

I will agree with the getting into school part tho

If I had to look at some old lady’s anus everyday for money, then shoot me now.
I really respect doctor but I haven’t a clue how anyone can do that for a living. I just don’t care about other people and I don’t have the patience to deal with their problems.

Even for 380k a year.
