Doesn't News 1130 do traffic updates every 10 mins during the day? I used to listen to them at the start of my drive all the time. But now I mostly just rely on a pre-trip Google Map check to see what the traffic is like for where I am going.

They used to be good, then they changed formats a few years ago I think? Are they still doing traffic?

Also, Honda uses a shitty imbedded antenna in the passenger rearmost window in the Odyssey, so I get marginal reception in SE Vancouver. Even FM goes staticky especially on Marine, due to the slope. Never had an issue with our old RX.

Wife's Audi e-Tron doesn't even have AM. FM only. I've read its due to EM interference from the electric motors.

Yes, still every 10 minutes.

AM730 was traffic all the time, but now it's something else (maybe repeat of 980?)

I had issues with reception in our Mini down at Marine as well. The stubbies just doesn't do as well as the old school aerials, but those whipping antennas are a different practicality problem on it's own.

Anyone here use a foldable phone? (samsung, google etc) Is the bigger screen a gimmick or is it worthwhile after the wow factor? Does the hinge to open it become another point of failure and break or the crease in the middle of the screen becomes distracting?

I had a Motorola Razr that folded up-down like a clamshell phone and didn't have any problems. The crease didn't bother me and it's easy to look past after some time.

As for the Z Fold / Google Pixel Fold type of foldables, I think you need to know what you're going to use the larger screen for and whether it's worth the trade-off for having a more fragile phone. The hinge will always be an additional point of failure over a traditional smartphone, and the right debris under the screen at the right angle can cause the inner screen to crack. The technology is getting better over the years, but it's still not foolproof.

On a side note, I saw the Z Fold 7 in person and it's a big improvement over the previous gen. It'd my first choice if you're shopping in this segment.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ight-171-found

New report shows the reason Air India Flight 171 crashed was because one of the pilots purposely cut both fuel lines to the engines, resulting in the engines to fail. The other pilot tried to reignite the engines but there wasn't enough time for the engines to wind back up.

Pretty fukked up

Something really really suspicious there. Apparently, turning off the fuel is a 2 step process so it can't be accidentally tripped. I think they should look into the history of the pilots, their computer history, what they were researching and what rabbit hole they went deep into.

I read that Boeing had a bulletin put out notifying that some 737 had those switches installed incorrectly where they could be cut accidentally instead of with purpose but this airline never bothered with the check

787 has flown millions of hours really without incident

Kinda doubt it would be somthing that just suddenly got overlooked for the first time

What romantic restaurants can you guys recommend for a birthday dinner?

Staying at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, so the downtown area would be ideal.

There's the Botanist downstairs, but it doesn't give off the vibe I want.

How is Bacchus or Brix and Mortar?

Speaking of the 787, I made a trip down to the Museum of Flight yesterday. It was an incredible experience, and it still shocks me how big modern planes are in real life. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the 777X, but it was tucked away in a hangar.

What qualifies for romantic in this situation? Lots of dark wood and a dark room with candlelight or a great view or white tablecloth that reeks of money?

I had our anniversary dinner over at the Beachhouse (https://www.thebeachhouserestaurant.ca) last night in West Van followed by a walk along the seawall over to Thierry's for dessert. The view there is great - you see UBC, Stanley Park etc right on the water. The food was solid but unspectacular but being on the water like that was pretty sweet. Lots of white people too if that's your thing. Closer to the Fairmont for that feel would be Cardero's but I wouldn't say it's that great of a restaurant.

Closer to the Fairmont maybe Nightingale? Not too pricey too but lovely woody room with almost a European library feel.

Kissa Tanto definitely has romantic vibes - darker room, booth style seating.

Lupo is in an old house and serves classic Italian.

DO NOT GO TO Bacchus ... if all I can do is to help you reduce your choice from 3 to 2 ... then hopefully, I save you from a terrible experience. Bacchus is terrible.

Were you able to take a look at the fuel shut off control in the cockpit?
