Sushi Aji on Kingsway near 41st is my go-to nowadays since Sushi Garden at Metrotown closed down. You can order their takeouts online too. (But they also have dine in.)

I know chains suck but I'm going for convenience over quality here.

Is there some cuisine you are looking for in particular?

Green Leaf Sushi on Kingsway is pretty kid friendly.
Pur and Simple on Kingsway and Broadway or Station Square are decent

We live going to Maxims in Chinatown after a trip to Science World in the morning. Their restaurant is very old school HK cafe

We've hit up Canffle a few times on weekdays and they aren't busy. I have no idea about weekends

Also Hapag for Filipino food cause it's cheap and easy (saucy rice, meats)

+1 to Pur and Simple. It's not the best breakfast/lunch BUT the servings are big and the carbs are very kid friendly - chocolate chip pancakes type of things. The kids meal is enormous but we skip it as my wife and I just share with the kid.

Another option I forgot to mention is Dumpling King near the Safeway on Kingsway. The scallion oil noodle is delicious and kid friendly as are the dumplings. The waitress (owner?) is kid friendly especially if you speak Cantonese.

Who do you guys usually use for travel insurance? I think most of us never actually have to use it even if we buy it so perhaps most of us don't have any experience but just curious anyway need to get some for an upcoming trip. I think I usually just go through BCAA or Bluecross but heard World Nomads may be a good option too?

I got it though my credit card and work. If you get a high end credit card they often give you 30-60 days of medical travel insurance up to a few million bucks. Just don’t be over 65 cuz they stop coverage for geezers.

FYI:

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/security-incident-yvr

A large police presence was spotted on the runway at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) this afternoon as a temporary ground stop was ordered due to a security incident.

Apparent stolen aircraft from protestor doing un authorised circuits at YVR airport which caused the delays.

-dumbass protester stole a Cessna for a joy ride on the north side of a runway.

According to a YVR spokesperson, a security incident took place at the airport shortly after 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, involving a small private aircraft in the airspace near YVR.

This prompted a temporary ground stop for arriving aircraft, and RCMP responded.

The aircraft landed safely, and officers took the lone occupant into custody.

We recently cross shopped around and found TD Travel Insurance come out on top in terms of cost and overall coverage. I would encourage you to do your due diligence and find what works best for you.

doesn't your work have travel insurance as a benefit?
if you're buying in addition to, take care of overlapping coverages where both providers will refuse to pay and point to the other company.

i recall at my last job the insurance guy did a presentation on our work benefits and the agent warned us of this & make sure if we're buying to ensure it's lined up and not conflicting.

^Glow is right.

Check your coverage with your employer coverage, you likely have a minimum of 60 days out of country travel coverage with up to $1-2 million at least.

Buying more coverage is simply a waste of money.

If you have sun life or Canada life extended typically they have good coverage

Premium credit cards as Hobz said (Amex reserve ftw) have very good coverage as well, however, in order for a spouse to have the same coverage you typically need that person to hold a companion card.

When we went to Europe for 4 months we purchased additional coverage through BCAA and for two people under 40 it was like $300 for 4 months, nothing for full bumper to bumper type coverage health wise

Went with PBC because it basically stacked with what we get from work, and no fuss coordination of benefits.

Yea the first payer clause i remember watching a news segment once where a couple got into a serious incident and it costed them hundreds of thousands of dollars. Their work benefit like many had something like a million lifetime which sounds like a ton and for the majority of it it's plenty. The couple already had health issues so they use thousands monthly via benefits on drugs and the incident basically wiped out their benefits.
