Since a few of us derailed the real estate thread for a short bit, I'll bring over my AC-loving nonsense here.
I'm looking to do a short term study abroad as part of my MBA program in either France or Germany later this year. The destinations I need to go to are not served by Air Canada directly (sad, I know) but instead, are better served and more economical on partner airlines.
I'm curious if any of you have experience with TAP Portugal, SWISS, and Brussels Airlines? My other options are Lufthansa, Air France, and KLM, but they are more expensive and have longer layovers than my schedule allows at the moment. My preference are with Start Alliance and Sky Team partners. One World is the lowest on my preferences. Also open to any low cost airlines. I've flown EasyJet and Ryan Air, but my experiences are over 20 years ago. Thanks in advance!
Assuming you are leaving from YYZ and crossing the pond, no to TAP cause it's a A321 narrowbody (but lisbon is a great stopover). Swiss and it's subsidiary edelweiss is good, love the bread they give out.
Thanks on the tip for TAP. TAP has multiple flights from YYZ to Lisbon and offers a transfer to either of my French and German destinations. The issue (read as first world problem) is the layover can be long and my schedule is tight. I'm really looking to minimize travel time and maximize the limited time I have at my destinations. There's not a lot of time for sight seeing and stuff like that. The travel is purely for academic purposes.
You aren't ferrying back and forth multiple times, it doesn't matter too much. Take the plunge and if it's no good then remember next time don't fly them again.
We aren't Hehe. You aren't doing France/Germany <-> YYZ twice a month through the year

I find the service gets a lot crappier when you do that and have to swap airlines. Like not being able to check in ahead of time because the partner airline has a different reservation code for you, but there's no way for you to find out what it is.

Currently, it's a toss up between the HEC Paris or GEM Grenoble Campus (this is the greatest variable.) Germany would be Berlin or Munich. There's a high possibility I end up going to both France and Germany but on different trips this year.
I was hoping AC would fly to Lyon directly but I think they don't in October. If they did, that would make it easier where I can just transfer directly to the train station and hop onto the train to Grenoble. The campus and hotel is literally behind Grenoble station.
F/up to our discussion about saving for retirement in the real estate thread. Another article laying out how much/little you need for retirement.
Quote:
For the past couple of decades, age 65 has served as an important milestone for working Canadians. It’s the year when all of your hard work and savings pay off, allowing you to finally relax and retire.
What if you want to retire at 60, though? When you’re younger, a five-year difference may not seem like a lot. However, those approaching 60 know just how valuable time is, and having an extra few years to enjoy the fruits of their labour and spend quality time with family and friends is an enticing prospect.
...
Using the 4 per cent withdrawal rule as a reference, a $750,000 portfolio would generate about $30,000 in annual income. Combined with government benefits starting at age 65, that could comfortably support a $55,000 to $70,000 retirement lifestyle.
tl;dr: $750k is what you'd need to retire at 60, if you retire at 65 then $500k should be sufficient if your home is paid off and you're living a modest lifestyle.
Good news! This week's daylight savings time change of spring forward by one hour is the last ever time change for B.C!
No need to keep changing the clocks forward and back one hour.
The B.C. government says this Sunday will be the last time British Columbians have to change their clocks.
The province will be permanently adopting daylight time and the March 8 "spring forward" will be the last time change, Premier David Eby announced Monday.
Eby said residents will have eight months to prepare for Nov. 1, 2026, when the clocks would have been turned back one hour, but will now remain the same.
Interesting that they decided not to wait for Washington, Oregon, and California to get on board. This means 4 months of the year when you cross the border that you'll have to change your clocks (this includes Alberta I think).
I wish Eby had gone with PST instead of PDT, but none of this annual back and forth is still a good thing.

Same. The public is uninformed (not stupid) and for stuff like this we should adhere to what the experts (doctors) recommend which is standard time.
I suspect we'll regret choosing PDT at some point and switch to PST instead.
Edit: Press conference announcing it where Eby is surprisingly pleasant and happy. If we saw more of this version of Eby I think the last election wouldn't have been this close.
I'm mentally retarded and a registered sex offender. Don't forget that!
So is Donald Trump and he is all about the business the best business man.
