Too many chinese people [no racist]

sindragon 09-19-2011 11:11 PM

I am sure everyone in revscene is going to agree with me

1) the weather. Have fun enjoying the rain compared to other nice cities in the world

2) house prices. Seriously, you have to make big bucks in order to get a nice house nowadays

3)mainlanders, the ones who get their dads to buy them a lambo or a ferrari :seriously: and the retarded ones who do NOT go to school and live off their parents. Seriously, GTFO! waste of space

4) the fucking school board. Strikes and budget 24/7

I personally never thought that vancouver has such high crime rate as skinnypup pointed out

Not to play devils advocate, but why do you hate this?
this is more of a jealousy issue. They are not a waste of space, they help support Vancouver's largely service/retail economy. Look at the HST on a $320,000 lambo. Probably more than what most average Vancouverite pays in income tax.

(2) It is not a fun city - The city does not plan as many major activities or fairs on weekends like Chicago, Toronto or San Francisco. Symphony of Lights is the biggest public event of the year, which is pathetic.

(3) There are no major Fortune 500 corporations or a large commercial sector. Thus there is a big brain drain for talented individuals to leave Vancouver to pursue opportunities in the U.S. or Toronto.

(4) Education opportunities - There isn't much research published in prestigious journals that originate from local universities. Schools admit undergraduates mostly on the basis of grades alone which result in students that are not well-balanced.

(5) Housing prices are way out of line compared to salaries and rental income.

(6) Immigration. This is a federal issue, but the fact of the matter is that Vancouver is a top destination for immigrants so it becomes a Vancouver problem. I don't have an issue with immigrants per se, just the quality of immigrants that are allowed to enter. We should be much more selective - take the cream and reject applicants who will find it difficult to adapt to the local culture.

(7) It's an anti-car city. Self-explanatory.

In summary, despite its high rankings, it is not a world class city. It is provincial. If I am going to spend my time in a provincial city, I'd rather be in Zurich, Stockholm or the south of France.

I think the more pressing issue is how Vancouver/Vancouverites tend to like advocating the opposite of most of the above.

spoon.ek9 09-19-2011 11:28 PM

to be honest, i hate people who complain about the weather here. live in alberta for a single winter season... seriously. also, not only do people complain about rain endlessly here, they also complain when it's hot :fulloffuck: :seriously: ?????

Culverin 09-19-2011 11:28 PM

I hate that the transportation infrastructure was never planned to be able to scale up. That was way back in the day, so nothing that I can super rage about.

Much more recent is that they didn't build freaking park and rides at lougheed, brentwood and metrotown.
3 major retail/business hubs in burnaby that would have brought in a lot of income into the city, and there are no park and rides. (the 20 or so spots @ lougheed don't really count).

If I could ride out to brentwood, park in a covered, gated, patrolled lot, I wouldn't ride into downtown.

So I guess I hate translink?

yup. and god forbid you call a honger a mainlander. that distinction HAS to be made or the wrath of god will be brought upon you. Yet, they have no idea that to the outsider, the Hongers, the Mainlanders and the Taiwanese are all completely and utterly, indiscernible.

As far as being an anti car city, get used to it. EVERY city will be an anti car city sooner than later.

And living in a city where you don't need a car for normal life, it's for the better, imo

are you kidding me, they are a GREAT SOURCE OF INCOME.

NOTHING is better for business than a bunch of dumb teenagers loaded with money to impress others.

Think what Jersey Shore did for Ed-Hardy :fuckyea:

Bullshit. Drivers still subsidize the cost of public transit. Bike lanes are woefully wasteful as they are not used by the vast majority of the population.

Vansterdam 09-20-2011 04:59 AM

Skytrain not 24hr
Buses never on time
Rain
Expensive transit
Surrey jacks
Housing/renting prices
Driving/drinking laws
No white castle/red lobster/jack in the box

True that. Now im talking mainly about raves here, why the hell would they charge ~100 bux for a ticket at a ghetto ass venue? People need to stop buying those overpriced tickets but when big raves are so seldom in van, its kinda hard not to
