| what do you hate most about Vancouver?
yeah yeah, we all know it's the best place on Earth or whatever Tourism BC says but anyone who's lived here and doesn't get pissed off at the city from time to time is delusional. i wanted to make this a scientific poll but i don't know how, so tell me what you think is the worst part of living in Vancouver.
is it the weather? driving? construction? real estate prices? gangs? posers? the culture of entitlement? something else? elaborate below!

(1) Vancouver is not a world-class city. Most Vancouver residents for the most part are not cultured to appreciate the Arts - museums, ballet, orchestras, galleries like you have in Paris, London, New York.
(2) It is not a fun city - The city does not plan as many major activities or fairs on weekends like Chicago, Toronto or San Francisco. Symphony of Lights is the biggest public event of the year, which is pathetic.
(3) There are no major Fortune 500 corporations or a large commercial sector. Thus there is a big brain drain for talented individuals to leave Vancouver to pursue opportunities in the U.S. or Toronto.
(4) Education opportunities - There isn't much research published in prestigious journals that originate from local universities. Schools admit undergraduates mostly on the basis of grades alone which result in students that are not well-balanced.
(5) Housing prices are way out of line compared to salaries and rental income.
(6) Immigration. This is a federal issue, but the fact of the matter is that Vancouver is a top destination for immigrants so it becomes a Vancouver problem. I don't have an issue with immigrants per se, just the quality of immigrants that are allowed to enter. We should be much more selective - take the cream and reject applicants who will find it difficult to adapt to the local culture.
(7) It's an anti-car city. Self-explanatory.
In summary, despite its high rankings, it is not a world class city. It is provincial. If I am going to spend my time in a provincial city, I'd rather be in Zurich, Stockholm or the south of France.
