RIM: Playbook Price Drop

If anyone is looking at picking up one of these tablets, there's never been a better time.

Are you one of the many that have had their eyes on the BlackBerry PlayBook, waiting for the right price to be able to finally land one in your hands? We have seen a number of PlayBook sales and promotions pop up already, and it appears as though they just keep on coming in. Within just the past few days we have seen quite a few more pop, so we decided to break them down for you to see which is the best deal for you. We'll update this post if/when more discounts pop up, so if you're looking to get a discounted PlayBook be sure to check back here before making your purchase.

Canadians can take advantage of some great deals from Futureshop and Best Buy on the BlackBerry PlayBook. It appears as though they are offering $100 off the device, plus a $100 giftcard, or if you order online the second $100 can be instantly deducted. Ordering online can score you a 16GB PlayBook for only $299, a pretty stellar price for such an awesome device.

You can get a 32GB one from FS online for 399... Not a bad deal!

The 16GB is $299, but as of right now, there is no OS update to support native email and BBM. RIM said that the OS update would be here in September, yet September is ending soon. If I buy the Playbook right now and gamble on the fact that RIM may come out with native email client, I must be crazy.

Narayan 09-24-2011 12:44 PM

the new software 2.0 is due out in October... Suppose to be coming with a ton of updates.

But I have a 9900, so the no native email/calendar is a mute point for myself.

Well, they actually said it would come in Q2 (before end of June), then they delayed that to Summer 2011, then they delayed it to end of Q3 (end of September).

RIM has done an extremely shitty job of supporting the Playbook. Even HP has done a better job and they tanked their tablet 4 weeks after the Canadian launch.

They've also been lower as well; Staples had a promo for Business Dividends customers at the end of August for half price on Playbooks (16GB - $249, 32GB - $299, 64GB - $349) for 2 days.

The OS is nice, it's quick, well-made, and Blackberry Bridge is a sweet feature if you have a BB Smartphone, but the lack of apps, promised updates, and bugfixes is troubling.

rageguy 09-24-2011 01:23 PM

^ Exactly. $299 is an excellent price for a toy, but I am at the mercy of RIM to release the new OS. I don't have Blackberry phones so I can't bridge. I guess the $299 price will attract existing BB users.

Well isnt today my lucky day... Due to the price drop I decided to order it online through FS with in store pick up option... the 32GB model for $399 (-100 immediate discount and another -100 for a FS GC that is applied to the purchase = $399)

once all was said and done the FS representative gave me the playbook for $399 and a $100 G/C! so basically I got it a PB 32GB for $299!

:fuckyea:

Which one did you go to? I did the same thing for the 16GB at FS Robson, but got no GC.. Only got $100 off. My receipt says customer did not receive GC as well.

6insomnia9 09-25-2011 12:51 PM

With the gift card, FutureShop can easily cancel it when they find the mistake that was made. Better use it fast :jiggy:

$299.99

I will probably return it and grab one during Xmas, so price not an issue.

Vansterdam 09-26-2011 05:54 AM

gonna try and sell my touchpad for the 32gb playbook when its on sale for cheaper :P

6insomnia9 09-26-2011 06:54 AM

Vansterdam 09-26-2011 07:12 AM

where u order from? so its 300 from futureshop

is the walmart one for 250$ the 32gb one?

im trying to buy it online at futureshop but i dont see the 100$ giftcard/buying online thing in my shopping cart or in my product total?? says 450$ after taxes

i selected local pickup since online option isnt available

how do i get the 100$ gc credit adjusted online with pickup option?

Simplex123 09-26-2011 09:40 AM

Walmart one was for 16GB. It was only in some stores. Guildford, Queensborough, Sqaumish, and Abbotsford. But Guildford denied the sale like 3 hours after it was posted online.

Vansterdam 09-26-2011 10:01 AM

im tempted to buy one right now once i figure out how to order online for pickup with the 100$ gc added on before i pay

when i called futureshop they said after you pay the 399 in store you get the 100$ giftcard

BUT

according to futureshops site

On-line (*ship-to-home and in-store pick-up): Receive a $100 on-line credit on the purchase of the item. Discount will be applied to the price of the product in your shopping cart.

which dosent show in my shopping cart at all

are they mindfucking me

Simplex123 09-26-2011 10:58 AM

This is how the 16GB on FS shows up for me, as $299 online. I think the automatic $100 off is not for pick-up.

ForbiddenX 09-26-2011 11:01 AM

When I add the 16GB to my cart it automatically takes off the $100.

Pretty good price especially if you get the $100 GC after you pick it up too lol

working for pick up too:

is there a particular reason why you would favour this over a touchpad?
my BB friends are eyeing this after the price drop but for none-BB users like myself i'm not sure how much better it would be than another tablet such as a touchpad

i might be in the market for a tablet so i'm curious

Teh Doucher 09-26-2011 11:29 AM

hmm maybe the playbook is actually worth buying now lol

*Please note this offer cannot be combined with any other promotion. Please note that all online and in-store pick-up orders will receive a $100 credit towards the purchase of the PlayBook as opposed to the $100 Future Shop gift card.
You either get the automatic $100 credit OR the $100 GC.

Simplex123 09-26-2011 12:15 PM

How much data are you PlayBook users using per month ontop of your normal BlackBerry usage when you're bridged??

bcrdukes 09-26-2011 12:18 PM

It will only use as much as you would normally use on your Blackberry. My understanding is the bridging takes place via Bluetooth, no? I don't believe it will use any above and beyond the usual data it would normally consume.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I know but someone earlier said that they received both. Could possibly happen to someone else too
