Discount Tire? They have pretty good prices.

costco
last time i was there 2/3 of the cars on the hoist were BC cars

You could also try TireRack and have them ship to an installer. I had a set shipped to Midas a while back where they installed. I think they ended up charging somewhere around $80 to mount and balance all 4 tires.

In general I found discount tire prices with tax and install the same as tirerack (tax free) + install to be roughly about the same. I think the choice would be dependent on whether the store had the tire you wanted.

I think there's also a Les Schwab across from Bellis Fair although I don't know what their prices are like if you want some more options to look at.

hmmm do you guys think it would be better to have them shipped or drive across and purchase? also if i were going to costco would i be able to use my costco card from here?

syee 09-24-2011 03:12 PM

If you can find the tires you want at Costco or Discount Tire, definitely drive down there and buy them there. (you'll probably have to make an appointment first)

You can use your Canadian Costco card in the US.

pursche the tires online.
ship to: Can Amer Freight - Warehousing and Freight Services in Blaine, WA
go pick them up.....

its pretty close.

lowda9 09-24-2011 03:33 PM

discount tires will price match. I went online and found the cheapest price including shipping and printed out the page, and they priced matched it.

could you tell me the necessary steps? so just go to any tire site, purchase the tires i want, have them ship to the above link and just pick them up? do I have to pay any fees? I've never purchased and picked up across the border before! oh and how long does shipment take?

they will price match any website online/stores?

lowda9 09-24-2011 04:17 PM

I think so. I went prepared though and had a list of websites i found if they were to decline one of them. Just tell them the website and they look it up right in front of you. If you do want them to price match something you found online, the price has to include shipping too.

lowda9 09-24-2011 04:39 PM

ya low pro but smaller tire size. 195/50/15. I got them for $54 a tire but after taxes and all the fees I think came out to be around $250. I'll try dig up the receipt if I can find it.

will I be hassled at the border or fees when bringing them back?

SpartanAir 09-24-2011 07:52 PM

Ive been to Discount Tire twice. Great prices, make an appointment ahead of time. You would be a fool to buy tires up here and pay stupid prices.

you will be hassled at the border, expect to pay a tire levy/duty on the way up, especially if there not installed, if you get them installed down there then there is a possibility of making it through (as long as your not bringing your old ones back)..luck of the draw

nns 09-24-2011 09:25 PM

Discount Tire will also price match Discount Tire Direct: Home - Discount Tire Direct

Sometimes DTD will have slightly lower prices than Discount Tire. Really nice guys at DT.

BTW, I didn't get hassled by CBSA when I came back with my new tires. They were mounted on already though.

El Bastardo 09-24-2011 10:03 PM

Adding another +1 to Discount Tire. They have a great warranty that even applies in Canada and they're super easy to deal with.

When I brought my mom's tires back from there not only were they almost a quarter of the price of what Kal Tire wanted for the same model, the duty was like 10% of the price of the tires.

Well worth it, yo.

Also, if you're morally flexible: drive the car you want to change tires on down to Discount Tire and have them mount them and throw them on your ride, drive back on them with a bag of tube socks from Target, and conveniently forget to mention them since they're in use at the time. But don't do that because that would be bad

All the receiving places will charge to receive packages. A larger package like a pair of tires (they'll bundle them in pairs) will usually cost a bit more. Expect to pay about $10 to receive the 4 tires.
