Did you have the other one before? The guy's coming on Thursday to install. How did you request the Cisco one?

Gh0stRider 11-22-2011 08:02 PM

i had the motorola surf modem.

i got it sent to me.

Cool. I'll see what the tech brings. He's also installing the homephone which I hope can just use the same coax cable by splitting without needing to drill or mount another.

TOPEC 11-23-2011 10:44 AM

^ the home phone doesnt use coaxial cables

Gh0stRider 11-23-2011 10:57 AM

thinking of getting home phone too. I heard it uses bandwidth?

Isn't it a Coax cable from Shaw that connects to a Docsis modem with telephone outputs?

It doesn't affect your bandwidth. Something about different channels I can't remember.

terkan 11-23-2011 01:38 PM

the coaxial cable x amount is dedicated to home phone x amount is dedicated to tv and x amount is dedicated to internet.. so whether u have it or not makes no difference

you can still use the same coaxial outlet unless the technician plans on putting the phone terminal somewhere else.. you can always request them to use the same outlet

from the wall to the terminal, it uses a coaxial cable

Awesome. They're coming to install it tomorrow. Guess I should go buy a regular home phone lol.

!MiKrofT 11-24-2011 11:44 AM

Install done. Took about 30min. for provisioning. Glad they gave me the Cisco modem right off the bat.

I upgraded to shaw 100 during the summer and got that terrible technet router/modem. Can I just call up shaw tech support and request the vastly superior cisco modem?

!MiKrofT 11-24-2011 01:36 PM

You should be able to if it's the modem giving you grief. They currently use SMC and Cisco. But I've heard the Cisco is the one to get. Do any of you have your Cicso in bridge mode? Or is it not necessary as long as I've got different IP's and DHCP ranges for the Cisco and the Router?

EDIT: Got the modem flashed to bridge mode only. Everything working perfectly now with my original dlink

StylinRed 11-27-2011 01:32 AM

what model is the Cisco modem that they have?

edit: nevmind i see it in the thread

Vansterdam 11-27-2011 10:11 AM

was thinking of upgrading from extreme to broadband50

about 5$ extra for first 3 months and then its like 78$-84$

the new wifi modem looks cool

anyone have any feedback?

!MiKrofT 11-27-2011 11:57 AM

I like most ppl didn't want to use the routing/wireless features of the modem/router cause it's very basic and doesn't work as well as my standalone dlink. However if you currently don't have a router or just a very basic one the bundled should be ok.

any more info on flashing the modem? i'm getting mine on tues and i don't know which one they're giving me. so i guess bridge mode is not a feature offered in the admin page?

lilaznviper 11-27-2011 01:32 PM

I called shaw to disable the router feature on the Cisco router.
