High Speed=7.5Mbps
Broadband 50=50Mbps

So about x6.7 times faster?

no gimmick, just call and switch and they either mail u a modem or u go pick
dont know how much u have to add on top, but since i had extreme i only needed to add $10 on top

just plug and play, if ur using ur own router then call in and tell them to disable wifi on ur modem, if not then just use.

mine wasnt enabled. had to get then to change the code to enable it

CrisQo 01-21-2012 04:54 PM

seems im having problems with it everyday, its pretty inconsistent compared to my old telus internet which never had problems. sometimes it slows to a crawl and other times I can't connect to wifi.

mr_chin 01-21-2012 09:56 PM

just upgraded for $3 more.

how do you guys get retention? do you call to cancel and then they offer you retention?

been with shaw for 10 years or more now.

!MiKrofT 01-22-2012 11:33 AM

I simply said I felt I was paying too much for internet and they transferred me to Customer Loyalty.

Psykopathik 01-24-2012 07:20 AM

paid $5 to upgrade from the reg hi speed (7Mbps) to BB50. current promo for 6 months.

fucking awesome, relatively speaking. downoad 1.5GB in 25 min. consistantly over 40 Mbps.

with high speed i kept getting throttled.

lowside67 01-24-2012 07:39 AM

My Broadband 50 is definitely faster than the xTreme I had before but still isn't as fast as advertised. I have done 4 speedtest.net tests at different times of day and different days, and the highest I have seen was 31mbps down, the lowest was 12mbps down and two were in the upper 20s. Upload seems a bit more consistent at 2.5 to 3.1mbps. Ping is good at sub 20ms all the time.

Just had mine setup today, with the new cisco modem. What's weird is that the wireless connection works fine but the wired connection doesn't. Called the shaw rep and he says that is normal and if I wanted to run both at the same time I will need a separate router.
Anyone know the reasoning for this? I thought the wifi modem was suppose to be able to do both at the same time.

lol that's a bunch of crap.. more like he doesn't want to help you troubleshoot or he has absolutely no clue whats going on.

!MiKrofT 03-04-2012 02:35 PM

Yes. That's a buncha crap. The cisco is a wireless/wired router with built in modem. There's no reason why one function would work and not the other.

Psykopathik 03-05-2012 09:34 AM

anyone know if its a gigabit router?

lol I'm considering bumping up to BB100 :D

EDIT you guys should try hard resetting the modems. maybe you got a used one?

one thing to note is how often you're maxing out your connection and the types of websites/traffic you use. when more file hosts were active, i could easily max out the connection on my bb50 plan, and even thought about trying the 100/250. but now there is rarely content that I want hosted from a location where I can max out my connection. if you're using usenet and constantly getting 7 megabytes/sec+ then ok, I see the appeal.

the docsis 3.0 modem is capable of over 50 and up to 250 (or more?). 50 megabits is the theoretical max on your plan, plus the speedboost once in a while.

You'd have to check to see if the cisco serves wireless N. If it does then it should be capable of sending at that speed wirelessly. I had everything disabled on mine so I can't check anymore.

It's a gigabit router according to Cisco's product page.

lilaznviper 03-05-2012 03:55 PM

The Cisco router/modem is gig

when i was on 7.5 Mbps, PB would get me up to 21Mbps lol

and at 50Mbps, like already stated, who cares lol! :lawl:
